It’s been almost a month so I guess I will post something, We are back in Oklahoma, currently staying with Wayne’s mom while we both search for jobs.
Yellow Freight, the 3rd largest freight company in the world filed bankruptcy and left 22,000 teamsters without jobs. Also, 8,000 non teamster employees. Wayne was facing a strike, which Yellow avoided when the union agreed to a 30 day extension to allow Yellow some time, well Yellow took that time to deliver the freight they had on hand. Wayne worked a week, Friday he was told not to come in they didn’t have work for him and Saturday he was told that he didn’t have a job any longer.
Sunday we made the decision to move home and be closer to our kids and grandkids. We left on Wednesday and arrived in Ada on Thursday, August 10th. Yellow did not pay his final check or his 4 weeks of vacation earned. (He has since gotten his final paycheck earned but only after the union went to court and it was ordered that Yellow do so).
This has been heart wrenching for Wayne, 17 years he has dedicated to this company and his union. He is now thrown back out in the job market. I too was working for Yellow but not yet a union member. So we both lost our jobs.
The move was hard, we had to leave many things behind as we ran out of room on the UHaul, in our cars and on the trailer we rented. My kitty Kat jumped out of the car unbeknownst to us and got left behind as well, Wayne not so much, but me, I am heart broken!! I miss her terribly.
I will get in contact with all my friends when I can, I’ve had Molly and Izzy since the day I got here because Ryane and Mark left for vacation a few days after. I have jewelry to delivery, I have not forgotten any of you!! Please be patient with me and us as we try to navigate through this.
