Experienced Group:
Monday March 17th, 2025, 9:30 am meet at the shop, 10:00 am departure from the fly shop.

The experienced clinic is a fishing meet-up for ladies, you need to have your own gear, tie your own knots, and are looking to advance your skills on the water.

Guided Winter Trip Option: Ice Fishing Trip

Ice fishing in the High Country of the Colorado Rockies is a unique activity and a great way to get out and enjoy the winter landscape. These trips' availability are based on the ice conditions, typically we will offer these trips from December through February. We primarily focus on low-altitude reservoirs during the winter and have all the necessary equipment to keep you safe and warm. This trip is priced at $450 for 1 person, $550 for 2 people, $650 for 3 people, and $750 for 4 people.

Guided Winter Trip Option: Half Day Winter Wade Trip.

This trip is a great choice for vacationers looking for a fun alternative to Vail’s world-class skiing. Travel time is minimal and within minutes from our shop, we have access to some fantastic fishing on the beautiful Eagle and Colorado Rivers as well as Gore Creek. Half-day winter wade trips last approximately four hours and we fish during the warmest part of the day to maximize your chances of finding big trout. This trip is priced at $350 for 1 person and $425 for 2 people.

Blog: The Top 12 Performing Flies of the Year

To ring in the New Year in we reflect on the top-performing flies broken down by each month of the year.

January: Rainbow Warrior. The month of January usually means cold feet, frozen rod guides, and nymphing deep pools to pick up large rainbows.

February: Sparkle Wing RS2. The Sparkle Wing RS2 is a variation of the ever so popular RS2 pattern developed by Rim Chung in the early 1970s. The sparkle wing has a very thin profile body with a wing casing typically made of pearl braid.

March: Barr Emerger. Another classic yet effective pattern year after year is the Barr Emerger. The fly was developed by fly tier John Barr in the 1970s after he realized the need for a nymph that represented a partially develop dun (an emerging insect).

Winter Trip Highlight: Winter Full Day Float Trip

Winter float trips offer anglers the chance to access unpressured trout on the Roaring Fork and Lower Colorado Rivers. Some of the largest trout of the year are landed during our full-day winter floats. Weather can play a role in the availability of this trip during the coldest months. In a single day, anglers are able to cover miles of scenic water that is not accessible by wading. For anglers who enjoy wading (and don’t mind the cold water temperatures), we are happy to pull ashore to prospect productive stretches of water. Full-day winter float trips last approximately six hours on the water due to shorter days and longer drives. The cost of the trip is $700 for 1 or 2 people and is priced per boat.
