Christmas Tree farming is a year-round, seven days a week, labor of love. We plant thousands of trees in April, pick cones from firs, mow the aisles spring through fall, and trim the trees from summer through fall. Finally, we get to share the farm with our community by providing memorable family experiences.

Carpenter Tree Farm is delighted to announce that we will be open for business starting on November 28, 2025. We have a substantial number of beautiful Christmas trees ranging from 5-9 foot heights, with a lot of taller overachievers mixed in.
As always, we will have one price per tree, no matter the height. The price this year will be $75 per tree. Shaking, drilling for pin type stands, and baling are all free services. Again, this year, we will have fresh, farm-made wreaths, swags, roping, and grave blankets. Tree stands, preservative, and removal bags will also be offered for sale.
Of course, the best part of this announcement is that we will have our friends, the beautiful draft horses, and their drivers, providing free rides to our customers on weekends and our opening day from 9 am-5 pm. Not only does this service provide a way to transport you and your tree around the farm, but it also helps keep our farm safe by reducing motor traffic on the lanes. There is also nothing like the experience of riding on the horse-drawn wagons, being transported back in time to enjoy the fresh air and nature on our picturesque farm.
If you prefer to walk, we have tree sleds to aid you in transporting your tree out of the field. Loaner handsaws are available, or if need-be, one of our staff members will be glad to cut a tree for you.

Carpenter Tree Farm will be open November 28, 2025 – December 14, 2025. Hours are as follows:
November 28, 2025: 9 A.M. - 6 P.M.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 A.M. - 6 P.M.
Tuesday through Friday: 1 P.M. - 6 P.M. Closed on Mondays
We accept cash and checks. Sorry, but credit cards are not accepted.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone this year!
Rick, Kathy, and Justin Carpenter, (Lauren, too!)

What could be the downside of rapidly gaining new customers and increasing business? If you have been a loyal tree farm customer over the years, you probably noticed that the trees of harvestable height were harder to find in 2022. We were even forced to close earlier than planned. Because of this shortage of mature trees, Carpenter Tree Farm will be closed for the 2023 Christmas Season, but will reopen for the 2024 season. This will allow the trees to grow to a sustainable size for the future.

We have agonized over this decision, knowing that for many of you, selecting and cutting your Christmas tree at Carpenter Tree Farm is a longstanding family tradition. We have a keen sense that our farm is not just a business, but a service to our Mid-Michigan community. For us, it is fulfilling to see the joy and excitement on the faces of children and adults alike. We will miss the teens and young adults we have the privilege of employing for the season. We will dearly miss seeing and visiting with all of you. And of course, we are sad not to have the noble horses and their phenomenal drivers providing rides for everyone.

There are several reasons for the shortage of harvestable trees. The biggest impact was Covid. Cutting a Christmas tree was an outdoor activity that people felt safe doing. There were many new customers who were buying a real tree for the first time, possibly because they were not traveling for the holidays, had more time due to working from home, or just because a lot of people wanted to get back to older Christmas traditions. We saw an increase in our number of 2020, 2021, and 2022 tree sales. Due to this increase, the result was less inventory of harvestable trees for the 2023 season. Simply put, the farm needs to rest for one year.

Please patronize our local tree farms and resist the urge to buy an artificial tree. You can find a tree farm near you by using the web locator on the Michigan Christmas Tree Association website. Have a very Merry Christmas and we will see you in 2024.
