Pops and Benny harvested Corn for 4 days. All the corn has been harvested and taken to market. I Thank God for the harvest and his bountifulness!

May be harvesting corn next week. Where has the summer gone? Rain, Rain, and temperatures never got the usual 100's in the Carolina's.

I do believe the planting season is over for NC. So many farmers could not get their wheat harvested or soybeans planted due to wet weather. I have living in NC since 1968 and I do not remember any season that has been this wet.

We have froze about 120 ears of Silver Queen corn, and several bags of cream corn. That is in addition to what we have been eating! Very good this year - no worms - no rot. I guess all the rain kept the larvae from the worms from hatching.

Pops is the only farmer in our area that has all his wheat picked and the soybeans planted. There are lots of "bigger" farmers that could not get all their wheat picked, and double cropped with soybeans due to rain. I am so thankful that everything is harvested and replanted. I do say a prayer for those who have lost their wheat crop and a soybean crop.

Corn is making ears.

Wheat Harvest

06/16/2013

Pops has finished the wheat harvest - now about 50 acres of soybeans to plant behind the wheat.

06/14/2013

Over 1200 bushels of wheat picked yesterday and today. Still have about 20 acres more to go but we had rain tonight so we may be held up a few days.

06/12/2013

Pops started harvesting wheat today. We are supose to get more rains so he is in a rush. Moisture was within range which was a surprise with all the rain we have had in the past 2 weeks.

06/09/2013

We have had over 7 inches of rain. Needless to say we won't be picking any wheat for several days. At least 2 acres will need to be replanted with soybeans.

This is our wheat field. Only about another week and harvest will begin. Heads are not quite dry enough.
