Essie, my new BFF, who is 6 years old, came by this morning to gift me with this beautiful piece of yarn art. It now hangs proudly in the shop. Truly, the very best gifts are those made by hand with love. Essie, you made me feel so special; thank you!

Let’s talk stitch markers: they come in a myriad of sizes, colors and materials, so which are best? Sometimes it’s a personal preference: as for me, I’m peachy keen on the shiny metal ones; others prefer plastic. Of course for crochet projects you need the locking markers that you can remove. Whichever you choose, A variety of sizes are needed to accommodate different needle sizes. Some markers are adorned with beads and can be more beautiful than functional;if buying just for the pretty beads is a crime, it is one I can certainly be convicted of. But I caution you to resist the temptation of buying only for looks; instead choose the size, shape, and color(s) that will make your knitting go faster.

While July 4 brings little to celebrate this year, we are overdue for some down time. Ocean Purls will close at 3:00 on Friday, July 3 - which happens to be International No Plastic Bags Day (who knew!), and will remain closed on July 4. We return to our regular store hours on July 8*.

Wishing everyone a very happy No Plastic Bags Day, and a happy Independence Day as well.

*our regular business hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 10:30-5:00.
