Brrrrr….. hunker down

🥶Cape Cod Gardeners: Please step away from the panic button.

Yes, it's going to be cooler than normal for the next few nights.

No, this is not the Garden Apocalypse.

Most of Cape Cod is expected to stay around 50°F, with some spots dipping into the upper 40s. That's a little chilly for late May, but it's not unusual and it's not a freeze.

Here's the quick version:

🌸 Hydrangeas? Fine.

🌱 Perennials? Fine.

🥬 Lettuce, kale, peas, and other cool-season vegetables? Also fine.

🍅 Tomatoes, peppers, basil, cucumbers, melons, and eggplant? They're the drama queens of the garden. They prefer warm nights and may sulk when temperatures dip into the upper 40s and low 50s.

🪴 Tropical plants and houseplants that have moved outdoors for the summer may need extra attention. If you can bring them inside, do it.

If you're worried about tender plants, cover them with a sheet, light towel, or row cover overnight. Container plants can also be moved into a garage, shed, or protected spot.

The good news? This weather may slow growth a bit, but for most gardens on Cape Cod, it's not a disaster.

Think "light jacket weather" for your basil, not "evacuate immediately."

🌱 Not sure if your plant is pouting, panicking, or perfectly fine? Give it a few days after the cool weather passes. If you notice changes or have questions, connect with the Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod through the Horticulture Clinic at capecod.gov/hortclinic. They're happy to help you figure out what's going on in your garden.

ATTENTION my off Cape people. This is Carver. Check your nighttime temps in your town. 40degrees is no joke! Western MA is anticipating frost and some parts of NH may have snow. Protect Protect Protect your plants! If you brought out your houseplants- bring them back in! If you have basil, dill, cilantro planted- cover it. IF you have any doubts- cover your plants with a sheet or light towel or bring them indoors. 😞

A Morning Among Beautiful Things
Colorful Kidz, Introducing the First Annual Curated Vintage Market

[Sandwich, MA - Saturday, June 20th 2026]
This June, the historic town of Sandwich, Massachusetts - the very first settlement on Cape Cod, founded in 1637 - will welcome collectors, dreamers, and devoted lovers of vintage for the First Annual Curated Vintage Market, located at the American Legion (20 Main St.) from 10:00 AM - 4:00PM. Whether it be rain, or shine, it is a day devoted entirely to the beautiful, the storied, and the irreplaceable.

What awaits you: There is a particular kind of magic that lives in old things. In the soft weight of a French linen sheet pressed flare by a century of careful hands. In the translucent glow of a porcelain cup that has survived kitchens and drawing rooms and wars and moves. In the patina of a mirror that has reflected a hundred mornings. That magic is exactly what we are gathering to celebrate.

Unlike a flea market or a general antiques fair, this is a curated gathering. Each vendor has been carefully selected for their passion, their eye, and their dedication to quality. These are not dealers - they are collectors, and there is an important difference. They did not acquire these pieces to sell them. They acquired them because they could not resist, and now they are ready to pass that love onto someone new.

The Setting: Sandwich was made for mornings like this. With its colonial architecture, its shaded village green, and the quiet dignity of a town that has seen nearly four centuries pass, it provides a backdrop worthy of everything on offer. Walk the streets before the market opens, pick up a coffee, and let yourself slip into the gentle rhythm of this extraordinary place.

The market is designed to feel unhurried. This is not a day for rushing - it is a day for lingering, for turning a bowl over in your hands and wondering about its history, for having a conversation with the person who has cared for it all these years. Bring a basket, wear comfortable shoes, and come ready to fall in love with something unexpected.

For the Collector in all of Us: You do not have to be a serious collector to belong here. Whether you are searching for the perfect vintage piece to complete a room, hunting for a gift that carries real meaning, or simply drawn by the pleasure of beautiful things, this market is for you. Many of our vendors began exactly where you are - standing in front of something old and feeling, quite inexplicably, that it belongs with them.

For those who do collect seriously, the curation promises to reward your expertise. Vendors bring pieces they have sourced from estate sales, French brocantes, and decades of patient looking. The quality here is the kind that does not come from a warehouse.

We invite you to make a day of it. Sandwich rewards the visitor who wanders - its heritage museum, its glass museum, and its winding roads towards the bay are all there waiting. Come for the market, stay for the town, and leave with something that will make you smile every time you look at it.

We cannot wait to share this beautiful day with you!
