Encounter with God—“Killing me Softly”
Do you ever have a song you have heard 1 million times? This is my song “Killing Me Softly”! As a teenager of the 70’s this was on every jukebox, radio station in the world( my world at least). I had the album- Roberta Flack, 45 single, 8-track and made a recording on a cassette—- that’s LOVE…but today I heard it performed by a young artist( Karla Davis) but it hit different and as a matter of fact, I was laying in my bed after morning prayer &scripture and I bolted straight up out of the bed(and at 66 this body doesn’t bolt anywhere😊).

He’s killing me softly—- ridding me of my “old” self and heart and giving me a new heart
And the Word says in Isaiah(the book which tells of Jesus coming in the future- Isaiah 43:18-19

““Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”

“Killing me softly, with His words, telling my whole life…Killing me softly”
Jesus stood & talked with the woman at the well, the Samaritan Woman… He knew her story(she didn’t know how or why) She listened to His words and then “She Knew”! Her savior had met here where she was, knew her story and life… a stranger” strumming her pain with his fingers,singing my life with His words…Killing Me Softly with His Song…” and she heard her Savior speaking to her through His words calling her to Him…”I heard He sang a good song … I heard He had a style” so I came to see Him and to listen for awhile
Jesus spoke to her heart, full of things she was carrying and sin, but He knew her pain and heart was not once of stone, but young, soft and pure. He offered her a “new heart and a new life” that day, right where they met, she was changed by this young Man “ who sang a good song, He had a style” so she left the well different that day… a child of God, a daughter of a King, a lover of heats, saved, a new creation! He killed the sin and “old” woman and gave her a new life and a fresh start…
Jesus knows our songs, the whole truth and He still desires to know us ,to share Hid good news story, His style( His way of living) and gives us a new life if we want and ask Him…
Here’s some verses to tell His Story—-Act10:43, Hebrews 4:16, John 1:12 and John 3:16
Here’s His Style in these verses—-John 14:1-6, John 14:12 , John 14:15 and Matthew 6:33

So now comes the part where, I get to be an encourager, a conversation starter, if you will…
Do you KNOW Jesus(IYKYK) or have you just heard of this stranger” who strums your pain with His fingers, singing my life in His words, killing me softly” with His song?
Let Him into your heart, mind &soul and let Jesus turn that heart of stone(sin) into a new heart(forgiven)… Have an Encounter with God, you’ll never be the same
Pray this…Romans 10:9 —that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord; and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved
You can do this anywhere, church, in your car, your home, ballpark, heck even at the Wal-Mart checkout aisle, He will meet you right there where you are…

When you wake up and feel like you don’t know how to pray or fight the forces of darkness, devil or the spirits that try to come against you…

Remember the example Jesus models for us in Matthew 4:1-11( the devil tempted Him in the wilderness) fight with your best tools!!!!
First put on your whole armor of God— Ephesians 6:10-19, 1Thessalonians 5:8
Now you’re dressed for the occasion!

Second, Submit, draw near to God, be humble and Pray—-🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
James4:7-10
Now the majority is there God and you!
Remember His promise
Isaiah54:17
No weapon formed again you shall prosper, He sends back up
Jesus & the Holy Spirit join the fray—
Now you’ve got them on the Run🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
And then Finally… pray Sister/Brother pray in the spirit, in your mind, in your prayer closet, in the Walmart line, in every room of your house, car and heart!

God gives us some powerful prayers in Psalms—- read and memorize them so you can always use Gods words to cover you and others!
Read Psalms 91- daily( I start and end my day with it)
Psalms 63- when I go to bed nightly
Psalms 23– just because you love and adore Him
Psalm121- where to find help
Psalm 150–let all things/creation Praise Him

Jesus showed us that the word and prayer are our best tools! But you must have faith like Jesus, love like Jesus, forgive like Jesus—- because dark can not stay or stand against Light—-
So I cover my social media space, fb friends, family, finances, self and even my companion, Stella the wonder dog, with these scripture, prayer and hedge of protection… and if you find this offensive, I’m sorry… but I protect with His might, power and love!

Let Love and Compassion win the day, fight the good fight, run the race set before you(only you can do that) but Bring a Savior (Jesus) with you!

What’s Love got to do with it?

On Tuesday Jesus was speaking and the Pharisees & Sadducees tried to trick him into His words!
They asked what is the greatest commandment?
Jesus didn’t hesitate or say let me do some research and I’ll get back to you…Jesus answered on the spot, no hesitation, nothing vague, philosophical… He answered as the Holy Son of God, with confidence—- go read Matthew 22:34-40
HE SAID PLAINLY—-LOVE THE LORD GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, MIND AND SOUL
and He added to Love your neighbor as you love yourself, all these two commandments hang all the law and prophets!

Do you think He was serious about these commands and Love… I do— so let us do that simple act in everything we do! After all The definition of Love is His life and the God in Heaven!
After that last question the Pharisee &Sadducee never questions Him again because they could find no fault in His answer…but their hearts knew Him not there was no love for him there
So as the questioning stopped on this Tuesday—-Jesus makes very clear what He is, what He desires from Us
So what will you do today to show Love like Jesus? Let Him lead you, my assignment is to encourage you, pray for you and love you like Jesus… have an Encounter with Jesus today… you’ll never be the same!

And the angels cried… Holy !

For surely the Angels cried that day who watched as Jesus went to the cross… to take my place, for my sin and shame, “He was pierced for our transgressions , He was crushed for our iniquity, the chastisement fell upon Him and by His scourging we are healed. Isaiah 53:5”
The Hill grew dark that day, no rescue in sight, what an inhospitable destination for the Son of God that day! He was stripped, mocked,poked, and left to die! Only a few friends and family remained that afternoon, He commanded his besties to look after His mother, Mary. He heard the penitent cry of a thief beside him, he even asked for forgiveness for the Roman Soldiers for what they were doing, He cried out to His father and the Angels , I’m sure stood by, crying but being obedient to Gods plan to save you and me… they cried Holy, all creation would cry, Holy, … Holy forever!
But there was Victory in His death, He triumphed over , death, hell and sin! He would be brought down and placed in a tomb, so prophecy could be fulfilled(read Isaiah)

But I’m sure if I was there like one of the women or his disciples, I’d be a little confused about what He told me on Thursday and the whole week really, He told us to take courage He would win! But the scene I just painted in the mind didn’t match up, but He had never told me wrong before, He was always right, He said have faith… so I know my mind would be bewildered, my eyes filled with tears, my heart felt it had been ripped to shreds, but remembered that He said we only needed enough faith the size of a mustard seed to believe… so now we wait, pray, probably sit in the dark and cry and wonder why He let them treat Him that way… He was the True son of God… He did it for me😢

The victory is coming in three days! Joined me in worship at A church of your choosing or at my church , Compassion Church for the end of the story but the beginning of your Encounter with Jesus… you’ll never be the same!

Garden of the Pressing—- Gethsemane

The Hebrew meaning of Gethsemane is the place where the oil is pressed. In my mind I always thought of this as a beautiful, serene, quiet place where Jesus contemplated and prayed and felt close to God because in my minds eye it was breathtaking, it was breathtaking but not in that way, it was where Jesus was literally “between a rock and a hard place” as we say today. He went there like most of us do with His 3 best mates to try and reason out problems & difficulties, but they tried to stay awake and on guard, to be near when times are hard… but the 3 whom He lived the most, really had no grasp of the gravity, seriousness and consequences to fully come… in this the place of the pressing. They let their guard down, succumbed to fatigue, sleep and darkness. Meanwhile the Son of Man and the one True Living Son of God was being pressed on all sides, with the plan that had to be completed.

He was truly the only one who knew what must happen to save ALL of humanity! No doubt His physical body was tired, His mind was working overtime and was focused on you and me. If you focus so hard that His sweat became drops of blood… to me that’s pressure and for sure pressing the life right out of you! The LORD reminded me when I prayed and was writing this down, He kept telling me “ the pressing of the oil equals anointing”

His friend struggled to stay attentive, but they let their guard down and who entered into the picture but Judas Iscariot and the Roman Soldiers. Do you think the disciples would actually been able to stop them? I think not because, because Jesus knew the plan and what must happen.
Do you think Jesus would have resisted… no He knew what Judas must do… Jesus shows us how to surrender and He willing gave Himself over to the “haters of the day”, He even had a contingency plan when Peter lopped of the ear of a Roman soldier in the heat of the moment, Peter would defend Him but realized it would be his death nell, for harming a Roman, he would be put to death! Jesus knew what kind of man he would need him to be later on to help foster the church of today. Jesus puts it right! As He always does with Love, compassion and His healing touch.
So the story is now told and comes the part where I get to be “real” as the you find say today…
If you find yourself being pressed like your life flow is coming out— remember to receive the anointing of the Lord, you must give up your oil.. and it may take multiple pressings to get your attention and then you have to yield to Him. The first help you have is prayer to a loving all powerful GOD, now you must understand(this is where it gets real for me) that He is not an instant GOD , to say this, HE works in His timing and His will!
1) Pray like Jesus did that night—- Father not my will but your will be done( sometimes that’s easier to say then to do…trust me, I know)
2 Seek Him continually so that you yield your oil for His purpose
3) Have friend and other believers who join in prayer, praise and worship
4) Defend Jesus and your faith with all you are— put on your Armor, stay strong in His strength, Know the words and promises He gives us in the Bible
5) Lastly love like Jesus—have an Encounter with GOD—- you’ll never be the same

THE PASSOVER and Jesus served…

The disciples made sure the elements were at the meal. Jesus showed them what love and serving others should look like

The foot washing
Our Jesus tied a towel around his waist, prepared a basin of clean water. He asked everyone to be seated, that had been the big topic today, but He shocked the entire room when He asked to wash their feet.. a great act of love, humility and real intimacy
But the Disciples had spent the biggest part of the day making sure everything just right, candles ready, food procured, seating arrangement and had probably not even thought of this important part— no one dreamed it would be done by the Master.
They were, I think, shy, embarrassed and a little unsure what to do. But I imagine Jesus in His tender, loving voice saying…please allow me. The scripture of Matthew 20:28 says He came to serve, not be served
If you were there would you have been reluctant to allow the living Son of God to wash your feet? I most definitely would have been hesitant, and would have probably blurted out wait let me wipe them off first…But I believe at that very moment Jesus would have said surrender to me that I may do this for the one I love. It would have been an overwhelming feeling but He gave us another example of how if you love like Him you serve others
The disciples gave in and yielded to His heart and request that evening. The closeness, humility and love would have been undeniable! How precious must we be to Him ? He would go to the beating, cross and death to prove how much He loves us!
As I think about it brings tears to my eyes, What do you need to yield or give in and surrender to Jesus today… mine is the fear of disappointing Him but the Holy Spirit reminds me time after time that’s impossible, because He loves All of me(even in my sin and shame He covers me)!
So today join me in prayer to yield to His plan for us!

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for showing us what humble service looks like. Today and every day, please show me how to follow the example You’ve set. Make me aware of the people in my life that need help, and those I can selflessly serve. Let my acts of service reflect my deep love for You and for the people You created. In Your name, Amen.
