Shared two great wines this weekend. The first was a white burgundy from Meursault and the second was a pinot noir from the Willamette Valley.
White burgundies are one of our favorite types of wines to drink during the summer. This Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Henri Boillot was delicious. It opened with scents of cold granite, yellow flowers, and honey. The palate was medium-bodied and well balanced with refreshingly crisp acidity, giving way to walnut, lychee and a touch of smoke. The finish had just enough salinity to draw you in for another sip. It was a great bottle - shame we only had 1.
We're also big fans of Willamette Valley pinot noirs. This 2013 Daphne from Eyrie was a treat. The vineyard alone has historic significance as being the first to produce pinot noir in the Willamette Valley and this specific plot is among the oldest and highest elevation in the region. The wine opened with a fragrant scent of fresh strawberries, and subtle mineral notes. The palate was medium-bodied and finished with a touch of tart cherries.
