🏖Back to Big Sandy — but this time, a completely different property.
We were fortunate to design and build two outdoor transformations at Big Sandy Lake this season. You’ve seen one — now meet property #2 at the popular lake just north of Ashland...
👀 We thought a before + after was the best way to show just how much changed here. What started as a wide-open lakeside space (and one little picnic table doing its best 😏) is now built for cooking, gathering with friends + family, and enjoying the view.

✅ A custom grill station, fire pit and seating area, new tree feature surrounded by large landscape stone, plantings, and plenty of details brought it all together.

Roses galore at Landmark! 🌹

We've got a few different varieties in bloom: Knockout, Pink Double Knockout, Purple Pavement Shrub Rose, Sunny Knockout, and one Joseph's Coat Climbing Rose left. 💐

These are all midsize shrub roses that do great in our area. With proper pruning and care of pesky insects, these roses will continue to shine in the landscape year round. 🌞🌟
Our climbing rose is a stunning addition to a fence or arbor. Blooming on new wood, give this one a good prune early in the season for best result.

If you're having a hard time deciding which direction you want to go in your landscape or garden, just stop out and chat to one of our nursery staff. We can give you some ideas on plants that work well together and stagger bloom times so your little slice of life is always colorful. 🪻🌼🌸

🏡 Sometimes the best room in the house is NOT in the house.

🤩 This project at Big Sandy, one of two projects so far at the lake north of Ashland, gave our team the opportunity to bring a lot of what we do together in one pretty incredible setting.

🥇The goal wasn’t simply to build a patio. It was to create an outdoor space that felt like it belonged with the home, worked with the natural terrain and made the most of lakeside living. Ultimately when we finished we wanted the family to feel like we extended the inside of their home outside.

✅ From massive natural stone retaining walls and boulder work to accommodate the significant elevation changes. To custom steps, concrete patios and walkways, landscape beds, outdoor lighting and a built-in fire pit & gas grill station — every piece was designed to work together, accentuate the natural outdoor setting and make the most of this incredible lakeside property.

💚Projects like this are why we love what we do. It isn’t about adding one patio here or planting a few things there. It’s about looking at the entire property and creating outdoor spaces that feel like they’ve always belonged there and create new living space for your family and friends to enjoy for many years to come.

And seeing that view everyday didn't hurt 🙂

Asclepias tuberosa, or butterfly w**d, is beginning to bloom at the nursery.

🦋 Loved by pollinators and a host plant for monarch butterflies.
🦋 Great for a sunny location in the landscape reaching up to 2 ft in height.
🦋 Native and very drought tolerant once established.
🦋 Can be pruned and will re-bloom with dead heading.

One tree our staff at Landmark loves is this flowering shade tree, Liriodendron tulipifera or Tulip Tree.

🌳 Gotta talk about those blooms: Tulip trees bloom after leafing out for the year, sporting yellow flowers with orange bands. You get the best of both worlds with towering shade and a nice display. Stay patient - it takes time for this tree to reach the age where it will bloom. You can still enjoy the unusual leaf shape and stellar fall color until it's ready.

🌳 Fast growing: Tulip trees grow up to 3 feet per year, eventually reaching 80 feet tall and 50 feet wide. No need to wait around for shade with this one.

🌳 Nurture this tree the first few growing seasons and it will reward you every year. Landmark loves this tree, and we have two different sizing options for you! Choose either a potted container, or larger, ball and burlapped Tulip tree.
