Boise Capital City Market, this Saturday 8/22. Located at The Grove, downtown Boise. 9.30-1.30.
Checked off a bucket list item this week--Gold Hill, Utah. One of the most mineralzed locations I've wandered. Amazing place..HOWEVER, the 1/4 mile, 300ft elevation trail up to "The Glory Hole" was tough (almost 69 years old!)...in 97 degree heat! up was bad enough..down, with a 50 lb backpack, was a killer.....and NO, I didn't rescue the bucket đŸ˜€

Back at the Boise Capital City Market this next Saturday, Aug 1, 9.30-1.30. Rockhounding/mining has slowed to a crawl with the current weather and fire danger--several of the sweet spots are within existing fire areas. So, Alice and I visited Silver Hill Lapidary to peruse Jeff's offerings. We picked up a few unusual/harder to fine items: Mookaite, Howardite, Tiffany Stone, Chrome Chalcedony, Polish Flint, Lapis. Stop by and see what Karen turns these into.....

Back at the Boise Capital City Market 7/18, 9.30-1.30...However we will be gone the following week, 7/25 to attend a good friends "much older than me" 70th birthday party.
It's darn hot out there...this week, we're taking a break and getting a few things done around home. However, it's time to plan ahead for the winter get-away...so, here's and interesting sample. Kauai Golden Temple Calcite. Calcite is rather common, but there is only 1 location where it can be found on Kauai, and most of it is the very nice gold/honey variety...we need more! AND, many thanks to Bobby, the 70 year old surf nut, rock hound, and general guide to the amazing! Scott

Boise Capital City Market, 7/11 9.30-1.30, we'll be at the NW arm. Layla and I did a bit of a wander starting in the Elko area, came up through the Oregon Sunstone area--we got some nice stuff, come and see!

What are you doing for July 4th? We've added some pretties--here's a sample: bracelets of jade, turquoise, variscite, opal, and rhodochrosite. Also a few Montana sapphires, and some of the rarest/hardest to find Oregon sunstones...and more. We will be at the base of the NW spoke...just across the way from the crepes and hot dogs! 9.30-1.30 Sat 7/4

The market got rained/stormed out today--so we came home, cleaned/re-arranged the rock area in the garage, then played a bit. As some of you know, we got married 46 years ago, 1980. A couple of weeks after we got married, Mt. St. Helens went off. (perhaps a sign from God, but we ignored it...)We were living in Bellevue, WA at the time. Sometimes, rockhounds come up with ways to justify additional rocks/trips/expenditures that seem, to the outside folks, a bit "excessive". Well, we found a source for Mt. St. Helens jasper, from an old collection. There wasn't much material in the collection, not cheap, so we snagged a bit! Since the eruption, the area has been closed to rockhounding/mining--so nothing dug or mined for a minimum of 46 years, and the material is very rarely seen or available. Anyway, Karen has just started polishing a few examples.....Scott
