Durango Cyclery

Durango Cyclery Durango Cyclery is the oldest, continuously running bike shop in Durango. Our building is full of cycling history, and boxing history as well.

We've been selling, servicing, and renting bikes for over 35 years and we are a local employee-owned and operated shop. Stop by our location and you may run into many of cycling’s most famous names hanging out reminiscing about wrenching on bikes back in the day. Heavyweight Champion Max Baer (1934-1935) grew up here. Our staff is passionate about bikes, and passionate about keeping bikes out of l

andfills and in the hands anyone who wants to ride. Thanks to the generosity of community donations, we recycle old and forgotten bikes and transform them into affordable, sweet rides: mountain, road, townie, fat, BMX, and kid’s bikes. We are proud to keep people riding and the earth just a little greener.

ALERT!!🚨 If you or someone you love has been considering purchasing an Esker Hayduke or Japhy, let us know! Now is the time! 2026 frames and builds will be available very soon and we should get an order going if you don’t want to miss out on a bikepacking adventure this season.
Check out the build options on their site, there’s a lot of choices; we can also custom build from the frame up, from a rolling chassis, or through part swaps on completes.
Contact Joe here at the shop with any questions.

Warning: Intentionally somewhat nebulous post below.
You might have heard of FNBs, but have you heard of FNBs?
Friday Night Bikes has been an officially non-official thing for a while…friends old and new meet here Fridays at 6 to ride mountain bikes. Like many things in the bike world, it’s become a little dude-heavy. Cheers to the women who’ve shown up for a rip!
This year we’ve got a crew of bad ladies showing up for their own journey. Friday Night Baddies.
Things to know:
It’s just a mountain bike ride with friends old and new. It’s not a skills clinic / but it’s always ok to ask for a tip from a ripper.
Probs not a beginner ride, better suited for experienced riders.
We meet and ride from the shop for a town trail rip. Decision on what to ride is generally determined moments before wheels start spinning. Lots of Gulch, some Test Tracks when it gets hot, and some Animas when it’s open.
Rides generally go as long as there is light.
Some social times upon return, BYO cold bevvies if so inclined. Shop fridge will be accessible pre/post-ride.
Sometimes we’ll all ride together, sometimes not.
Meet at 6, usually rolling around 6:15.
The program is pretty loose, don’t ask a lot of questions, I don’t have many answers. It’s just a bike ride.

You can thank the stoked new owner of this Esker Hayduke for this long awaited snow. New bike day be like that.
We put together this no-nonsense build with a Shimano Deore drivetrain and brakes we had in the shop and some parts our customer tracked down online to stay within her budget.
We obviously love sourcing everything we can and scraping up some of that sweet sweet bike industry margin to help keep the good kibble in Stevie’s bowl, but we’re ultimately pretty ambivalent where things come from, because we understand all this bike stuff can add up.
We’re psyched to consult and assemble and charge fair prices for meticulous work - we just want our customers happy and inspired to swing a leg over their dream bike; it’s a fun process to be a part of.

Thanks for showing up Durango. We were part of a global community focused on peace and justice today. That felt good.

Join us Wednesday, January 7th 1-4pm for Pittie-Puppy-Palooza!
We’re so psyched to team up with the La Plata County Humane Society to host this adoption event.
We’ve got a special connection with this little gang of nuggets as Joe helped foster them since they were inside their very prego and incredibly sweet mama.
They are hilarious, playful and loving. They’re getting around 10 weeks now, so a bit bigger than the following pics, but they’ll be just as cute and wiggly.
Stop by and meet these little buddies and dare to be smitten.

Real talk: Every year I struggle a little more with holiday consumerism; it always feels a little goofy and honestly kinda desperate to do these “C’mon down to Durango Cyclery and buy stuff from us! Tell ‘em Hammerhands sent ya! Yee Ha!” posts….but alas, here we are. Does that make me a bad capitalist? Maybe. Sometimes I just kinda feel like Moe the bartender at Uncle Moe’s Family Feedbag with a scalding basket of french fries on my head.
Truth is, winter is pretty brutal in a little bike shop that focuses more on fixing stuff than selling stuff; and whatever we sell in the next few weeks does help us out tremendously as we navigate the next few months.
So with that in mind, here are some products you can purchase for the bike bike riding people in your life(or treat yo self!)
1: Books written by great people! The Bikeraft Guide, written by our Mancos friends at ,(aka Doom and Lizzie) reads more like a collection of stories and is sure to guide and inspire you to adventure. Confessions of a Lazy Cyclist is a hilarious collection of short stories written by local legend Robin Brodsky.
The Bikepacker’s Guide is a great resource for the bikepacking curious.
2: Lights and Bells! Everyone loves lights and bells! Outbound Lights are designed and assembled in Chicago and our go-to for night riding mtb missions. Cygolights are also assembled in the US of A and our go-to for commuting and getting around town. And bells, with all the chatter about the Animas trail recently, it’s a great idea to put a bell on a townie and ring that thang.
3: DC merch! Hats! Merino socks! Even some socks without our logo on them…we carry Swiftwicks because they are objectively the greatest socks ever made. Life changing socks.

Welp, we had a sweet go at it this fall, but it’s definitely, finally hoodie season. TBH, there’s really only a short window in July/Aug when hoodies aren’t in the rotation…but I digress.
We’ve brought in a small batch of DK/DC hoodies printed by our friend at .prints in Moab, just in time for Analog Monday.
Analog Monday you ask? I don’t know, maybe it’s next Monday, or maybe it’s Analog Tuesday after Cyber Monday….don’t ask, just buy local this year, eh?
We googled “Hoodie Catalog Photos” and did our best.

Rolling chassis…so hot right now.
It’s a pretty cool way to visualize and inspire a bike build, while leaving room for the rider to choose key parts like drivetrains, brakes, dropper lengths and touch points like grips and saddle.
We felt bad for this small Esker Hayduke frame hanging in the window, so we decided to give the rolling chassis concept a go with a ride-into-the-woods-for-days no-nonsense chassis build.
Small Esker Hayduke
Rock Shox Pike Select Fork
Cane Creek 40 Headset
Jones H Bar
Industry Nine Enduro S wheelset
Maxxis Rekon 2.6 tan boys

All that said, we love freedom, so if you were inclined to swap any of these parts or even choose to swap over and build the medium Hayduke that is lonely hanging in the window, we support your choices.
If you’ve been bikepack curious, cmon down and check these rigs out, we’ll build ya something sweet for a reasonable amount of dollars.

The skies of November aren’t gloomy quite yet, but the gales are about to arrive right on time.
So with that in mind, we’ll be opening at 11am until springtime.
Make use of the extra light in the morning, go to the desert, or come by and check out some of our warm gloves and bright lights that will keep you riding through the winter.

Yep, it’s that time of year, especially for us after-work riders.
How’s your light game? If you’re still strapping a battery to your bike, or god-forbid putting a 3lb NiCad battery in your bottle cage…it’s probably time to consider an upgrade, and that upgrade should probably be an light.
We are psyched to bring these lights into the Cyclery. A few of us ordered these lights last year at retail(which is crazy for bike shop people), and we liked them so much we’re now signed up as a dealer.
Designed, engineered and assembled in Chicago, these wireless lights have unbelievable bang for the buck. Small, light, bright and great value.
C’mon down and check them out. Nothing like some bike dancing in the moonlight. (Bike dancing credit: )
