Unlike the fleeting and often conditional nature of human love, God's love is unwavering, unrelenting, and unmerited. It is a love that seeks not to receive, but to give; not to judge, but to redeem. In a world where love is often tied to performance, appearance, or circumstance, God's love stands as a beacon of hope, shining brightly with a constancy that transcends the vicissitudes of life. On Valentine's Day, as we celebrate the love that surrounds us, let us not forget the Source of all love - the God who loves us not for who we are, but because of who He is. His love is the foundation upon which all other loves are built, and it is this love that gives meaning, purpose, and significance to our lives

This Christmas, as we gather with loved ones and celebrate the joyous birth of Jesus, let us not forget the poignant and powerful story of the Holy Family's flight into Egypt. Faced with the brutal threat of King Herod, Mary, Joseph, and the infant Jesus were forced to flee their homeland, seeking refuge and safety in a foreign land. Today, thousands of immigrant families are reliving this same desperate search for sanctuary, fleeing death threats, hunger, and oppression in their own countries. As we commemorate the Holy Family's courageous journey, let us choose to advocate for our immigrant brothers and sisters, who are often met with fear, hostility, and bureaucratic red tape. Let us welcome them with open hearts and minds, recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. And, let us work tirelessly for comprehensive immigration reform in our homeland, seeking to create a more just and compassionate system that honors the values of hospitality, mercy, and love. By doing so, we can help to ensure that those fleeing persecution and violence are met with the same kindness and generosity that the Holy Family received in Egypt, and that they are able to build new lives, free from fear and filled with hope. As we celebrate the gift of Jesus' birth, let us also gift our immigrant neighbors with the gift of solidarity, accompaniment, and advocacy, recognizing that they, too, are beloved children of God, deserving of our love, respect, and protection. In a world characterized by relentless noise, division, and anxiety, the simple act of lighting this candle is not merely a tradition; it is a declaration. It symbolizes the belief that peace is not an abstract governmental treaty, but a tangible, personal commitment that begins within the smallest sphere of our influence. May we use the soft, steady glow of this final Advent light to consciously quiet the discord—in our homes, in our communities, and most importantly, in our own hearts—allowing this small, unwavering light to burn brightly as a persistent promise that even the deepest darkness cannot extinguish the hope of cultivated rest and enduring goodwill.
