January’s Book Club Reading

Summary: In this simple, sweet, and very human picture book, Mercer Mayer's popular Little Critter shows us all the things he can do by himself, from tying his shoes (almost) to pouring his own juice (and only spilling a little). The wry illustrations often point up the fact that Little Critter doesn't do everything perfectly, but he makes an effort to do the best he can.

Discussion questions:
1. Did everyone enjoy the book?
2. What did you enjoy about it?
3. Name some of the things the critter could do by himself.
4. What can you do by yourself?
5. Name something that you cannot do alone and need help with.

Activities:
Each child colored and completed a worksheet. They had to match each pair of shoes to the correct owner.

I cut out a shoe that was traced onto a piece of paper; used a hole punch for the shoe string holes and used ribbon for shoe string. Each child practiced tying their shoes.

Snacks:
Each child enjoyed juice and Little Debbie heart shaped cakes.
