Kate Laack is coming back to Fitger's to sign copies of her books and we're excited! Her new book "By Any Other Name" is about an author who is kind-of struggling. She just bombed a grad school interview, she's got a stack of rejections from agents and publishers, and she's stuck in an airport. Imagine her surprise when she wanders into an airport bookstore and finds a new book, but just a few pages into it she discovers that it's a novel that she actually wrote! So why is another author's name on the cover? Come and meet Katie and get a signed copy of this one - especially if your Book Club is looking for a read that's going to spark a great discussion.

To wrap up Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to spotlight "Is This a Cry for Help?"
A librarian struggles under the weight of both personal tragedy and public controversy. It's Darcy's first day back at the local public library following a two-month mental health leave, and she steps directly into the line of fire as a patron complains about a man watching p**n on one of the computers. On top of that, Darcy's wife, Joy, is leaving to help her sister with her newborn daughter, a cat named Kyle shows up at the library looking for a home, a persistent patron keeps emailing Darcy with oddly specific questions about birds, and Darcy inadvertently leaks her own n**e picture on social media. Darcy's first-person narration shines in its calm, logical tone, almost detached, no matter what new crisis befalls her.

This novel is written in verse and follows one girl's journey as she learns that she's on the autism spectrum and comes to embrace herself. Seventh-grader Selah lives by her list of how to be a "Normal" person. It's exhausting for her to hold in all the bad feelings all the time. When Selah's annoying classmate Addie starts braiding Selah's hair one day without asking, Selah instinctively lashes out. She inadvertently hits Addie and gets suspended. As she learns more about her potential autism diagnosis, a supportive English teacher assures her she's not "damaged" and encourages her to express her feelings through poetry.
