This was a special request by my daughter in law. I stay so busy that most of the time my family, or myself for that matter, never get to have anything made. She asked for this for Christmas and only received it in time to give her mom for Mother’s Day. I hope Michelle loves it as much as I do!

By now you all know that the handwritten gift items are my favorite to create so I was excited to have the opportunity to make these by request for Mother’s Day. Gifts like these are always the ones to be cherished for years to come.

Sunday on the porch 🪻

Mama used to say to me, “I wish I were half as talented as you.”
No matter how hard I tried, I could never convince her just how talented she truly was.

My mama was the epitome of a stay-at-home mom. She was June Cleaver… just without the heels. (Does anybody even remember that show anymore? 🤣)

One of my earliest memories is being just 3 or 4 years old, learning to make Valentine cookies with her. She lovingly made the dough from scratch and even colored it pink.

Later, around 6 years old, she taught me how to sew. I still remember the little sewing machine she bought me that was designed especially for kids. It had all the safety features to keep children from getting hurt, but it also came with real patterns to make little pillows and other small projects. She would sit at one end of the dining room table with her sewing machine, while I proudly sat at the other end with mine. She actually made all of our Halloween costumes when we were growing up and later for her grandchildren until she couldn’t any more. About that same age, she also taught me how to help with her latch-hook rugs.

When I was around 8 years old, she gave me a needlepoint craft with yarn. I remember it was a rainbow stitched onto hard plastic canvas that snapped into a bright blue frame when it was finished. I made plenty of mistakes, but she was always patient with me and spoke encouraging words that made me want to keep trying.

By the time I was 10, she taught me counted cross stitch — something I’ve continued doing now for nearly 40 years.

We always had home-cooked meals, fresh baked goodies after school, and a home filled with love. She loved entertaining during the holidays, served as a Girl Scout leader and “cookie mom,” and somehow managed to keep us busy all summer long.

She was an amazing mother.

We lost her a little over two years ago, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss her.

This Sunday morning, I find myself sitting here reflecting on all those little moments that never really felt little at the time. The truth is… I still wish I were half as incredible as she was.

From my porch to yours… Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there. 🪻

There’s something so special about a puzzle. Each piece is unique on its own — different shape, different purpose, different place it belongs. But when all the pieces come together, they create something beautiful that could never exist without every single part.

Families are a lot like that.
They grow, change, expand, and sometimes feel a little chaotic while everything is finding its place… but somehow every piece fits exactly where it’s meant to. 🤍

I’ve been working on a very special project and it made me think about how important each piece of our family puzzle is. My husband and I have been blessed beyond words!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Sunday on the porch 🪻

Last Sunday, I found myself missing my grandma a little extra…
So I did what she always do best—I cooked.

Nothing fancy. Nothing expensive (well… it used to not be expensive 😂).
Just a table full of food and a house full of love.

Smoked picnic ham, baked mac & cheese, butterbeans, deviled eggs, and that crispy lacey cornbread I can never make just like hers… no matter how hard I try.

And of course—dessert. Because at Grandma’s, there was always dessert.

What I remember most isn’t just the food though…
It’s the way people showed up.
How there was always enough.
How somehow, no matter how many people walked through that door…
there was always a place to sit.

And when it was all over, we’d wrap up leftovers in those old butter bowls—
stacked in the fridge like a little mystery for the week ahead.
You never knew what you were pulling out until you opened the lid… and honestly, that was half the fun.

I laughed to myself this time though…
because that same ham my grandma used to buy for next to nothing?
Cost me $48. 😳

But you know what?
Some things are still worth every penny.

Because it’s not just dinner…
It’s memories. It’s family.
It’s love that lingers long after the table is cleared.

And around here…
Sundays will always feel like Grandma’s porch. 🤍

Good morning friends!!

For a long time, you’ve known me as Sweet Tea & Fireflies 🤍

And if you’ve been here a while, you’ve probably seen me start sharing pieces of my story… the porch, the gatherings, the memories that shaped everything I create.

The truth is — that story has always been at the heart of my business.

So it’s time for my name to reflect it.

Sweet Tea & Fireflies is becoming My Grandma’s Porch.

Same hands. Same heart.
Just a name that finally feels like home.

This space will always be about meaningful, handcrafted pieces made for the moments that matter most — the ones gathered around tables, shared between families, and remembered for years to come.

Thank you for being here through every season.

Pull up a chair… we’re just getting started. 🤍

Another fun project request from my sweet friend Erica. She wanted a shaker style “candy” box but wanted it large enough to display on her mantle. This ended up being approx 11”H x 7”W. It took some planning and much trial and error, but I love the end results!

I absolutely love this sweet cake topper that went out recently. It was actually just one of a set that contained 10 large toppers for a very large baby shower cake. Baby items are always a joy to create!
