Friday Book Post: Historical Theology by Sam Storms
This is an interesting read that combines church history with theological movements. It sits in the middle in terms of its depth. It covers all major movements and does a very good job at giving an overview of them. New insights and threads that could be explored for deeper study are woven throughout this work. It does not go as deep as maybe some other works Wood, but is a great overview to understand the historical basis of the theological perspectives. I enjoyed it greatly and learned a lot.

Friday Book Post: The Mysteries of the Messiah by Rabbi Jason Sobel.
This book is a deep dive into some early Old Testament individuals. People like Moses, Joseph, Abraham, Boaz, and David are looked at in Light of the New Testament. Numerous parallels, insights, and prophetic elements from their lives are fulfilled in the arrival of Jesus. This is a book that helps to make sense of the shadows that are in the Old Testament, but fulfilled in the New Testament. If you ever wondered about the connection between the Old Testament and the New Testament or if you wondered, if God was working a plan, then this is the book for you.

Friday Book Post: Scrolling Ourselves to Death, edited by Brett McCracken and Ivan Mesa

In 1985 Neil Postman wrote the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. He expressed great concern about how television was influencing our thinking. This book is collection of various authors, who are discussing how the Internet is rewiring our brain. What Postman wrote about television has come to be true, and the Internet is exponentially worse than television.
This is a great collection of essays that combine biblical principles with cultural insight. I think it is a must read.

Friday Book Post: The Motivation Myth by Jeff Hayden
This is a business/motivational book. It’s very secular, but the general premise is valid. Hayden argues that we cannot wait for motivation to inspire us into work, but we start to work and motivation will begin to build.
I have found the same thing is true in our spiritual walk. We often wait for inspiration or a spiritual push to move us into steps of faith and obedience. When we know what we are to do and what God is calling us to do, we need to step out in faith . Sometimes our faith may not come with the emotional push we like. However, when we are faithful and obedient, it will bolster our faith and motivate us to continue in faithful obedience.

Friday Book Post: Winning The War In Your Mind by Craig Groeschel
This is a great book. It combines the biblical perspective of renewing our mind and taking every thought captive with some scientific studies on neuroscience. It is incredibly powerful because the author is very vulnerable about his struggle with insecurity and battles in his mind. At the end of each chapter, there is practical guidance leading the reader to learn how to take his thoughts captive and win the battle of his mind.
I didn’t think I would like this book this much, but I will be buying copies to giveaway. It’s that good.
