Guitar players are uniquely sensitive to how pickups’ frequency filtering shape the inspiration. In this demo, explores the comparison between a set of 635 pickups, rooted in a vintage-spec frequency profile, and our Fairfield pickups, which feature precision-engineered BLK-1 filters.
The treble management creates a striking contrast: while the Silver Sky delivers a clear, glassy high-end, the BLK-1 leans into a smoother, more rounded top end with signature warmth, all while maintaining exceptional clarity. Pay close attention to how each set responds in the upper register of the neck.
The character of each also becomes apparent in the OD section. The BLK-1’s pronounced mid-range focus thickens the tone more, delivering that sought-after period accuracy and a meatier.
If you‘re chasing the quintessential “vintage Strat” sparkle, the 635s are a classic choice. But for those pursuing that specific, iconic modern-classic era JM tone, the Fairfield frequency profile is unmatched. It’s apples vs oranges.

From our Q4 2025 BLK-1 batch, capacity allowed for one additional body beyond the initial allocation. The piece is now available to order for scheduled April delivery.

These new BLK-1 bodies are a labor of love - modeled after the original 83-piece Masterbuilt version down to every detail. More info will be available on the website next week. You will also have the option to include an exact replica of the pickguard assembly with the Fairfield pickups, as part of this year’s final batch.
