Basset Horn in F (Fa) Designed after Mozart-Stadler's 18th-Century Basset Clarinet.
Basset horn extends its range to include low chromatic notes down to C with 4 thumb keys. The basset horn is tuned in F, producing a sound 4th lower than the normal B-flat clarinet.
Drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of Theodor Lotz, a renowned Viennese maker of clarinets for Anton Stadler, Mozart's virtuoso clarinet player, we have designed this instrument based on the sketch found of Anton Stadler's concert program in Riga of 1784. The key system evokes the early 5-key clarinet.
The basset horn, renowned for its rich sound, is exceptionally versatile and suitable for performing a wide range of compositions beyond Mozart's repertoire.
In addition to Mozart's celebrated works such as the 'Gran Partita', 'Requiem' and many more, the basset horn can beautifully interpret pieces by other composers including Beethoven.
Moreover, Richard Strauss played a pivotal role in reviving interest in the instrument and reintroducing it to orchestral settings towards the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century.
Crafted from Indian Cocobolo wood with imitation Ivory protection rings, the body of the basset horn boasts durability and aesthetic appeal. The keys are casted from brass, steel springs with best suitable pads.
Included in the package are two bells, 'bulbous' (L shaped) and 'straight'.

It is designed to be used with a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece. The barrel receiver is tailored for modern Bb mouthpieces, including the Vandoren B40 and B45.
