Egypt's Greatest Daily. Egypt's Greatest Department Store.

If you think our Dillard's day is fast-paced -- and it really is -- you should run alongside our day away.
Wednesday was going to be about Vandalia, sans the Evans Hotel lost in 1969 to arson (don't go there, we were three), and Highland, a town we read was near-perfect and now armed with an IDOT grant route to perfection.
That's where we want to believe we are: on a route to perfection. Our numbers are record numbers every week, every month . . . but we're driven knowing everything can be better every day.
Here's the Centralia Sentinel, still publishing five days a week with a circulation of nearly 10,000 a day. We've always been fascinated by this Southern Illinois gray lady. The masthead has forever proudly boasted the claim "Egypt's Greatest Daily" between Sphinx and the Pryamids.
Twelve hours ago we found ourselves in the circulation office and Ron said, "Take a picture of anything." So we did.
As we walked away from the Sentinel, Ron charged after us. "Would you like to see our 150-year-old press?"
But of course.
Moments later we're in the Sentinel bowels. Today's paper is printed on a newer press, a few feet away.
Today was akin to watching King Tut print a newspaper.

Eleven years at Dillard's . . . and perhaps today was the best of those 4,000 days.
Today started last night as the Dillard's Marion three-car motorcade traveled through Williamson, Franklin, and eventually Perry, counties.
As we moved through Funkytown, 10 minutes east of the destination, a text came through. Event pushed to Saturday. It rained in DuQ.
The sun always shines on Dillard's Marion so we had no idea DuQ received seven inches of rain in three hours.
We reached the Hotel in Front of the Southern Illinois Center -- that might even be the name -- and broke the news to the group. Folks, Dillard's took the NubAbility fundraiser so seriously it booked rooms.
But that moment was the beginning of the magic, not the end. NubAbility asked us to come over for a behind the scenes party with unbelievable access to the campers and the coaches from across the country.
Campers introduced themselves to our table -- the only sponsor who kayaked to DuQ -- and shared their stories. A dozen coaches did the same.
We spent this morning at Du Quoin's secondary school where we failed to convince anyone we played basketball in this gym.
We share with you here this pic of the Salukis assisting with basketball drills today. That's YouTube sensation Marcus Domask and Will Keller. The leader of the pack, though, was genuine YouTuber and former University of Florida Gator Zach Hodskins. More on Zach Sunday.
Soon we will share plans for a massive Dillard's fundraising effort for NubAbility -- and this is because of you.
You have no idea what your support of our store means. It means Little Rock approaches Dillard's Marion with the message "your store is doing amazing things every day and a Southern Illinois organization will be the beneficial of the 4Q fundraiser."

It's much too late to discuss Dillard's Corp., Dillard's Marion, Dillard's Marion tailored, Southern Illinois, NubAbility Worldwide, or Du Quoin.
But we must post this at 11:58.
Here's a small part of the Dillard's Marion team this evening at the Du Quoin State Fair and the Magic Mile. The team from Dillard's best store overlooking the fastest harness track in the world.
More In the a.m. . . . but see us this weekend. When Dillard's Marion isn't supporting the world, we're taking care of you.

Psycho Bunny at Dillard's Marion tailored shop has taken Southern Illinois by storm since June 2020.
We walk into the Razor's Edge in Du Quoin two weeks ago and an old friend, Rod Chapman, says, "Fred, I'm comin' down to Dillard's for a Pl***oy Bunny suit."
Understand Rod is more of a Hart Schaffner classic fit man. Sometimes we market too hard.
We were away from the store today, rare for a Monday (and we're in tomorrow, rare for a Tuesday).
This evening we received this DM from another friend, Aaron Hale. Mr. Hale, of Modern Woodmen of America fame from Vienna, made our day.
He's a huge Psycho Bunny fan. You will be, too. See us Tuesday and then Thursday-Monday at Dillard's.

We celebrated Southern Illinois's last remaining power couple from the 1960s and the 1970s this evening.
Yes, the Huffs. Here's Ann cheering on Walt Frazier and the Salukis at Madison Square Garden at the 1967 NIT finals.
Six years later or so Fred is wondering how we're going to conduct the Hambletonian after days of rain. This might have been 1974. We'll check the records book.
Tonight what's left of the Huff kids -- Carol, Susan, Fred -- hosted a lil' get together at Tom's Place. Not insinuating any of us have passed away, but we've gone through a lot and you see it here.
And don't be offended that you weren't invited.
We had planned a giant event at the Hayes Mansion in the heart of the Du Quoin State Fair for February 2019 to celebrate Dad's 90th. That went nowhere. "Everyone's dead -- or moved to The Villages," we were told.
You all know the Huffs would have put more folks at the Hayes Mansion than at any time since the last Hambletonian party (1980).
So tonight was a celebration of Fred's and Ann's 71 years of marriage. June 17 is the actual anniversary.
Yes. These are the last two from Little Egypt's Golden Era. The other couples have all died or moved to The Villages. This pair? In their 10th decade in Southern Illinois.
Think about that. Think about that the next time you can't wait for the day to end. Ten decades in Southern Illinois. Not Southern California.

We present the most sought after sports coat from our spring Custom Express book. It's a New York cut from Hart Schaffner Marx and Dillard's sent five of these gems to Marion when the pattern was discontinued.
They are 30 pct off original price as a part of the Dillard's Marion tailored clearance event.
DM us for sizes or see us Friday at 11.

Hundreds of International Harvester tractors and IH aficionados are in Du Quoin Thursday through Saturday for the Red Power Round Up.
It's the 32nd national show and was one of the few events not canceled a year ago when it was held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. Du Quoin also hosted the show in 2012.
The 66 Series IH 666-1568 is featured this week. Here's one now.

Brendan picked up two Psycho Bunny suits Sunday. He saved 20 pct on each one.

Friday night and everyone's moving . . . We're the kids in America . . . (whoa).
We should probably start posting earlier in the evening. But we won't. Ratings are too high in the 10 o'clock hour.
Meet Pastor Jolly. Lowell Jolly. He celebrates 60 years in the pulpit Sunday in his new Hart Schaffner Marx gray suit at the Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church.
His six decades weren't all at Eldorado. Some were in Tampa. We lived in Tampa 11 years -- but pretty sure in a different circle. Really. You have no idea.
The Reverend Jolly stopped in Tuesday for his HSM suit. He picked it up today. We throw the Dillard's alterations timeline out the window when it comes to men of the cloth.
Here we are today presenting Lowell with a German chocolate cake (the pastor's favorite) from Du Quoin's Baked on Division along with a card signed by every Dillard's associate.
If you think this happened at any other department store in North America today (or the world), it didn't. It only happened at Dillard's Marion.
See us Saturday 11 - 6:30. We close at 8 but it's really been a long week for the suit director.
