As a flight attendant I always carried a small pack of crayons. You know, that little pack that your kids get at a restaurant? I kept it in my lunch bag so I always had one for that tired mom whose child just wouldn't give them a break. All it would take to calm their child down was a new face giving them a new toy to play with. Pair a pack of crayons with the airsick bag in their seat pocket and WALLA! you have a puppet and a happy baby!
Give your kids motivation for good behavior! Bringing new toys, snacks, and activities will combat and minimize the effects of bored kids. You know...tired, grouchy, tantrums, ect. All the things we don't want, especially when we are traveling and tension is already high. And what's the saying...happy kids, happy mom? Ok, maybe it's not a saying, but it should be!!
And it doesn't always need to be something physical you bring. Singing songs, listening to books on tape, and playing games are great ways to break the boredom and spend quality time as a family while your driving of flying (although singing songs might not be a great idea on a plane!! lol)
Do you have a favorite game you play with your kids on road trips? I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments. A favorite in our family is "What Am I Thinking Of?" It's kinda like a 20 Questions except it doesn't have to be yes or no questions.
