April 25th - Independent Bookstore Day celebrating the Bookstore's 42nd Anniversary and Debbie's 35th year as Debbie "From The Bookstore"
May 1st - International Culture Day - Join us for a discussion of the book "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" we will be creating origami paper cranes, learn to write your name in Japanese and storytelling (10:00-4:00)
May 8th - Art Walk featuring local author Devienne Weekes signing her debut novel "What the Lake Knows" (5:00-7:00)
June 6th - Author event featuring "The Starfish Chronicles" author Sue Kerver with special guest Wendy Dumke (time will be announced)
June 9th - Author event featuring author Leslie Budewitz dicussing her book "All God's Sparrows and Other Stories A Stagecoach Mary Fields Collection" Presentation will be at the Beaverhead County Museum Depot Theater. (Co-sponsors: Dillon Friends of the Library, Dillon Public Library, Beaverhead County Museum and The Bookstore) (6:30-8:00)
July 17th - Author event featuring author Joe Drivdahl signing copies of his new novel "Expiration Date" (this event is in conjuction with BCHS class of 1976's 50th class reunion) 5:00-6:30

Chris La Tray is an Anishinaabe/Métis storyteller, a descendent of the Pembina Band of the mighty Red River of the North and a citizen of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians. His multi-award winning third book, Becoming Little Shell: A Landless Indian’s Journey Home, was published by Milkweed Editions on August 20, 2024. His first book, One-Sentence Journal: Short Poems and Essays from the World at Large (2018, Riverfeet Press) won the 2018 Montana Book Award and a 2019 High Plains Book Award. His book of haiku and haibun poetry, Descended from a Travel-worn Satchel, was published in 2021 by Foothills Publishing.
Chris served as the 2025 Kittredge Distinguished Visiting Writer at the University of Montana and was awarded the 2025 Montana Heritage Keeper Award by the Montana Historical Society. He has facilitated workshops for The Missoula Writing Collaborative, Yellowstone Forever, the Freeflow Institute, Writing the Wild, Orion, Torrey House Press, and others.
Chris writes the weekly newsletter "An Irritable Métis" and lives near Frenchtown, Montana. He was the 11th Montana poet laureate (Aug. 2023 – Aug. 2025).

His book Becoming Little Shell: A Landless Indian’s Journey Home is part of One Book Montana. Humanities Montana is partnering with libraries to relaunch One Book Montana, a statewide read spotlighting the 2025 Great Reads from Great Places authors. The statewide read will run from October 1 2025 – February 28 2026. The One Book Montana program invites all Montanans to read Becoming Little Shell: A Landless Indian’s Journey Home by Chris La Tray.
