This Friday, May 1st, we will be closed as we stand with the people.

If you’re looking to show up and make your voice heard, we’ll be part of a rally at Roosevelt Park at 4PM. There will be space to speak, connect, and take action alongside others in the community.

In moments like this, rest is also resistance. Taking a step back, being intentional with where we spend, and choosing not to participate in business as usual can be powerful. We encourage you to stay home, hold your dollar, and speak up in whatever way feels right to you.

This Saturday is a big one for us 🎉📚

We’re celebrating 11 years of Pages Bookshop—and our first year stewarding the space since reopening last year. Even better, it all lines up with Indie Bookstore Day, so it’s the perfect time to show love and pull up.

We’ll be honoring the legacy of Pages with the Susan & Pip Scholarship, with a recipient being announced that day. We’ve also got a special moment with Bonjour Detroit joining us, plus a few more activations you’re not going to want to miss. And don’t forget—we’re still home to the only French book corner in the city, so come explore that while you’re here.

Come celebrate with us, tap into the community, and be part of this next chapter of Pages. Be there or be square. 🖤✨

This Tuesday at 6PM, we’re diving into Afrofuturism and Black storytelling here at Pages 🚀📚

Join us for a special event celebrating Detroit Stories Quarterly alongside a range of powerful works from Black authors pushing the boundaries of sci-fi, culture, and imagination. We’ll also be hosting a panel discussion featuring Zig Zag Claybourne and other Afrofuturist voices—bringing real conversation around storytelling, future-building, and Black narratives to the forefront.

If you’re into speculative fiction, community dialogue, or just want to experience something inspiring, pull up and be part of it. ✨

Game night just got an upgrade at Pages 🎲📚

We just added two new board games to our collection: Argute and Bunce.

Argute is perfect if you love Spades but want something more flexible—it’s all about bidding and strategy, but you don’t need teams or even an even number of players. Same energy, new twist.
Bunce brings a fun spin to word games. Think Scrabble, but flipped—you score based on using similar letters and keeping words simple. It’s fast, competitive, and a really fun challenge.

If you’re into unique, lowkey addictive games, come check these out. And if you’ve got any niche game recommendations we should add to the section, drop them below 👇🏽

Today’s recommendation is Bring On the Blessings by Detroit’s own Beverly Jenkins 📚✨

A powerhouse in romance and storytelling, Beverly Jenkins has been setting the standard for decades—earning honors like the Michigan Author Award, the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, and national recognition from outlets like NPR and The Wall Street Journal. She’s been championing inclusive love stories since Night Song in 1994, and this series is a perfect example of why her work resonates so deeply.

Bring On the Blessings kicks off her beloved Blessings series, following a nearly forgotten all-Black town that gets a second chance when a new owner steps in with a vision. What unfolds is a story about community, change, and what it really takes to rebuild something meaningful together.

If you’re looking for a heartfelt, character-driven read with depth and legacy behind it, this is one to pick up. Stop by and tap into a series that’s been growing with readers for over a decade. 💫
