At Pages, we provide a place for you to become comfortably lost within our curated selection of literary fiction, nonfiction, and children’s literature. Pages is a general subject bookseller with a goal of promoting reading and connecting readers with writers and stories. Pages carries a curated selection of books primarily covering fiction, with a highly curated selection of non-fiction as well.

Pages features Detroit authors, Detroit themes, and creating healthy and environmental friendly homes and community. Pages Bookshop hand selects gifts to encourage reading and writing and ways to make reading and writing fun! Stay tuned for author and other fun events!

Lauren Hood is the founder of the Institute for AfroUrbanism and creator of AfroUrbanism, an emerging field of inquiry exploring the relationship between culture, place, imagination, and human potential. Based in Detroit, her work examines how communities cultivate thriving through cultural memory, creativity, and collective vision.

A Professor of Practice at the University of Michigan, Hood leads the Black Thriving Index, a global research initiative documenting conditions that support flourishing across the African diaspora through interviews and dialogues in cities throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa.

Through her writing, teaching, and research, Hood explores how ancestral wisdom and future imagination can shape more expansive possibilities for people and place. She is currently advancing Dreamstead, a Detroit node in a growing constellation of intentional places dedicated to human actualization.

Keith Owens is a Detroit-based author and Michigan Hall of Fame journalist. He is the author of The Mayonnaise Murders scifi/fantasy trilogy, the semi-autobiographical novel Fire and Wanda, and Who Stole the Zmulobeast, a children's detective mystery. He is co-founder of Detroit Stories Quarterly and publishes short stories regularly on his Substack AfroFantasy Detroit.

Denise Crittendon is a multiple award-winning journalist and debut sci-fi/fantasy author. Her Afrofuturist novel, Where it Rains in Color, which was published by Angry Robot Books, earned a 2023 Indie Author Project Award for the State of Nevada and a 2023 “Outstanding Book Award” from the National Association of Black Journalists(NABJ).

Crittendon is a former staff writer for The Detroit News and the Kansas City Star, and a past editor-in-chief of the NAACP’s national magazine, The Crisis and African American Family magazine, a former Michigan-based publication for the black community.

Other publications include Girl in the Mirror, A Teen’s Guide to Self Awareness and Millionaire Moves: Seven Proven Principles of Entrepreneurship, co-authored with business mogul, William Pickard.

She divides her time between her hometown, Detroit, and Spring Valley, Nevada.

Hope to SEA you soon! Author talk for book one of his Saturday from 2:00-3:30pm The first 30 guests to arrive will get a sweet treat from (ages 10+). Carissa, the author, will be reading from Beneath the Surface, presenting samples from the "Deep Dive" activity book and giving away prizes from The Blue Marble Series.
