Even realism needs lining. It’s a tattoo and skin isn’t paper. If your artist isn’t making a 15 year product and the tattoos just done for pics find someone that cares. There’s a lot that goes into these tattoos and a lot of artists are lacking foundational principals that make these tattoos hold up in the skin. Always remember it’s not just art it’s tattooing, tattoo it looks a tattoo so it holds true. Always be growing and figuring out what needles you’re going to use to make that s**t hold up.
