It’s just the way we’re supposed to be. Our Republican controlled Legislature somehow missed that basic lesson way back in Kindergarten or Sunday-School.
At their meeting on Tuesday, the Historic Valley Junction Foundation board approved the following statement regarding state legislation under consideration:
“The mission of the Historic Valley Junction Foundation is to guide the evolution of the original Valley Junction district in West Des Moines, Iowa by preserving and honoring its historic character, supporting small businesses, and connecting the community.
In our mission to support our small businesses and connect the community, Historic Valley Junction Foundation strives to maintain a welcoming district to all. In alignment with that mission, the Historic Valley Junction Foundation stands firmly against any legislation that fuels discrimination, prejudice, or harm to any individual or group within our community.
Inclusivity is not just a moral imperative; it is also good for business. Communities that embrace diversity thrive socially and economically.
The Historic Valley Junction Foundation remains committed to offering visitors and small businesses a welcoming place to shop, dine and work. Historic Valley Junction is a community dedicated to celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
The Historic Valley Junction Foundation pledges to actively work towards creating a community where everyone feels respected, valued, and welcome, regardless of age, race, religion, creed, color, s*x, s*xual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, disability, familial status or marital status.
Signed, Historic Valley Junction Foundation”
