The Simple Kind started with the vision to stand alongside and empower marginalized women in the garment industry. We spent time learning about exploitation, trafficking, and fair trade in Amsterdam, Latvia, Hungary, Thailand, and Cambodia, and in every location, we repeatedly encountered one key fact that has changed the way we think, shop, and vote:
Almost always, women who are exploited for their labor are financially vulnerable migrants.
The past few years, I (Molly) have been working with migrants in the US: asylum seekers and refugees who have come from all over the world looking for a better life for themselves & their children. Simultaneously, our government has been making life harder and harder for migrants, leaving them more vulnerable than ever to exploitation. I want to share these stories with you, because right now, that’s what it means to stand alongside and empower marginalized women in my neighborhood, my city, my country.
I’ve met MANY women from all over the world who are incredibly talented crafters, and tomorrow I’ll be posting the first of our new Christmas decor pieces made by those very women 🤗 So stay tuned for a new chapter of The Simple Kind!
Thank you all for being here and supporting us 💛
