The Paisley Barn Owl FAQ:
Why should I buy your candle instead of one at another store?
My candles have matches and an ignition source built into the lid, they are packed in a water-resistant and reusable glass jar, and are conveniently small enough to be packed in a small “bug-out bag.” I do my best to keep my candles economically priced and I offer fast priority shipping.
Why do I need survival candles at all?
While I joke about the zombie apocalypse, what is truly no laughing matter is the fact that disasters can strike anywhere, and to anyone. (Look at those affected by Sandy or Katrina.) It’s not a question of IF, but WHEN. Those who are prepared for a crisis situation can better protect themselves, their families, and provide much needed help and support to their friends, their neighbors, and strangers. Especially during weather-related incidents, official help can be many hours or even days away. It’s better to be prepared than desperate and in the dark.
Why use soy wax?
LONGER: Soy candle wax lasts 30-50% longer than other candles.
HEALTHIER: Soy candle wax is NON-toxic, it does NOT release carcinogens into the air, other candles do.
CLEANER: Soy candle wax burns cleaner, with less soot and smoke than other candles.
GREENER: Soy is a renewal and sustainable resource that comes mostly from local farmers and it is biodegradable.
Why don’t you dye your candles pretty colors?
White wax gives you the best (brightest) light source.
Why use clear mason jars, why not a pretty colored jar?
Colored jars reduce the light the candle puts off. These are tactical survival candles, not decorations that lose all functionality. Secondly, the screw-top lids give the added benefit of making the candle water resistant. (see video)

Why don’t you add fragrance (scents) to your candles?
Two reasons, the first is that scented candles, when burned for long periods of time, can cause headaches, nose bleeds, nausea or worse. I’ve heard too many stories about people who survived Hurricanes Sandy or Katrina and had nothing to burn but scented paraffin candles while the power was out and they suffered serious medical problems as a consequence.
Secondly, my candles are intended to be tactical. You don’t want to alert the whole neighborhood that you’re inside your home by sharing your cinnamon-linen-pumpkin-embrace-vanilla-chai-latte-spiced candle scent with the rest of the world, do you?
Burning Instructions
1. Always keep wick trimmed to 1/8 of an inch.
2. Burn candle for one hour, then blow out and let wax cool completely. This is why my candles come in sets, you light one, burn it for an hour, blow it out, light the second one, and so one. You can have an entire evening’s worth of light this way and conserve your candles.
3. Always burn candle on a level surface.
4. Never leave candle unattended, children should not use this product, it is not a toy.
5. The melting point of soy wax is about 120 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is possible that if left in a hot room or in the sun the wax could melt. If this happens, center wick in candle and place in a cool dark place (like the refrigerator) until wax is firm again.
6. Soy wax is a natural product and is easy to remove if needed. Wet a clean cloth with hot water and lay over area. Wax will melt and be absorbed into the cloth.
