I keep thinking about how uncomfortable our culture has become with unresolved spaces.

We are constantly pushed toward optimization, certainty, action, resolution. I think that changes the way people experience the space between a diagnosis and goodbye too.

Slowing down and staying present through uncertainty has become a kind of cultural skill we’ve partially lost.

Not because people don’t love their dogs enough. Often the opposite.

People are exhausted. Financially stretched. Working constantly. Trying to hold together lives that already feel overwhelming before a crisis even arrives.

But I do think many people are searching for permission to slow down in these moments. To stay close. To not feel like everything has to immediately become a calculation or a race against fear.

Human hospice care and the way we talk about mental health have both changed enormously in recent years. I think we may be at the beginning of a similar shift in how people navigate end-of-life care with pets too.

I wrote more about this in my latest Substack essay. Link to read is in the comments.

“Do you have exciting weekend plans? 😃”

Me: Oh absolutely! I’m very busy. Lots of important corgi business. Very packed schedule.

Me actually: finds the comfiest spot on the couch and doesn’t move for 8 hours 😴

Life’s ruff when you’re a pup. Wishing you a weekend full of rest, laughter, snacks, and all the little things that make your heart happy. Have a good weekend, furriends ❤️

After spending time in dog communities online, I started recognizing the shape of certain posts before I even finished reading them.

“He was fine yesterday.”
“She collapsed out of nowhere.”
"We had to let him go that same day"

After Graffiti’s diagnosis, I started seeing it everywhere. In memorial posts, in comment sections, in the way certain losses get described. And often, there is never a clear answer for what actually happened.

Hemangiosarcoma is one of the most common causes of sudden collapse in dogs. And yet no centralized national system reliably follows these cases from diagnosis through outcome across veterinary medicine.

When the cause goes unnamed at the moment it takes a dog’s life, the case disappears into the broader category of sudden loss. The disease stays harder to track, harder to study, and harder to understand.

Pattern recognition requires patterns to be visible somewhere.

I wrote about the way these stories keep repeating, why hemangiosarcoma remains so difficult to fully see, and how much of the infrastructure people assume exists around a disease this common still doesn’t.

11 years young and still the life of the pawty…Happy Birthday, Brady! 🥳🐾🎈
Watching you grow older so gracefully is the greatest gift. You still have the heart, energy, and sparkle of a puppy and I often forget you’re even 11. You’ve changed my life in more ways than I could ever put into words, and I’m forever grateful for every single day with you!
Here’s to 11 years of love, laughter and happiness...and to many, many more. Love you, Brady the Pig, my forever dog

Lately our adventures with Brady have mostly been hikes, dog parks, patios, doggy social hours, and exploring new neighborhoods.

What outdoor adventures do you guys do with your dogs? Even simple ideas. I feel like there are probably a lot of fun little things out there we haven’t thought of yet.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far!

POUND BUDDIES DOG OF THE DAY! 🦊

Calling all corgi lovers… your perfect match may be waiting for you!

Meet Foxy ❤️

Foxy is a 2 year old corgi who is as sweet and adorable as they come. This beautiful girl has a calm and gentle personality that makes her such a joy to be around. Whether she’s walking nicely by your side on a leash or curled up next to you for snuggles, Foxy is happiest simply being with her people.

Foxy is already spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to head home with her forever family. She’s the perfect mix of cute, cuddly, and easygoing.

Ideally, Foxy will go to a home with a family with Corgi experience. If you’ve been dreaming of adding a corgi to your family, Foxy may be the girl you’ve been waiting for. 🐾

To meet Foxy, please go to poundbuddies.org and fill out a My Pet Profile application today!

Please send any inquiries to [email protected], as social media is not monitored.
