I didn’t think the roof of my mouth would be the thing making me nervous today, but here I am. I noticed that my palate hurts when I touch it, and now I keep checking it because it looks a little red and irritated in spots, especially toward the middle/back area. I can’t tell if it’s from something simple like hot food, irritation, brushing, dryness, or if it’s something I should actually be more concerned about.

I’m trying not to spiral because mouth tissue always looks strange when you take a close-up picture with flash, but the tenderness when I press on it is what’s making me second-guess it. I know even a dental exam, X-ray, or referral can turn into a $300 to $1,200 situation pretty fast, so I’m hoping it’s something minor, but I also don’t want to ignore it if it needs to be looked at. It’s frustrating when it’s not really a toothache but still feels dental enough to worry about.

Of course the tiniest spot in the hardest place to see has now become my entire personality for the day. I noticed this little white bump/spot near the back molar area and I honestly can’t tell if it’s irritation, a canker sore, something from biting my cheek, gum tissue, or something dental-related that needs to be looked at. It’s right back there where the cheek and gum meet, so every picture looks worse and more confusing than the last.

I’m trying not to jump straight to worst-case thinking, but it’s hard when anything in the mouth feels like it could either be totally harmless or somehow turn into an expensive dental visit. I don’t have major pain, but it feels noticeable enough that I keep checking it, which probably isn’t helping. If it needs an exam, X-ray, or some kind of treatment, I know that can easily turn into a $300 to $1,200 situation depending on what they find, so I’m hoping it’s something simple that settles down on its own.

Why does one little spot on the gum instantly make me feel like I need a second opinion from the entire internet? I noticed this raised red area above the tooth and now I’m wondering if it’s something harmless like irritation, a sore spot, or swollen gum tissue… or if it’s something more serious that needs to be checked or removed. It doesn’t look huge, but it definitely stands out enough that I can’t stop looking at it.

I’m trying not to panic because mouths can look dramatic up close with flash, but I also don’t want to ignore something if it could be infection-related or connected to the tooth underneath. This is one of those things I didn’t expect to connect until the pain started traveling. I had a lower right jaw extraction done on May 7, and now I’ve been having pain on the right side of my face, especially around my temple, sometimes going down toward my neck and into my jaw muscles. I keep wondering if the missing tooth or the way I’m chewing now could be causing strain, or if it’s something totally separate like jaw tension, bite changes, or healing irritation.

I’m not trying to panic, but it’s frustrating because the pain doesn’t stay in one simple spot. Some days it feels more like face pressure, other times it’s jaw muscle soreness, and then the temple/neck pain makes me question if it’s dental-related at all. I already know an extraction and follow-up dental work can turn into a $600 to $2,000 situation pretty quickly, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is something I should go back in for or if others have had similar pain after losing a tooth.

Somehow 63 hours after extraction feels like the exact point where my brain decided to start questioning everything. I’ve been trying to leave it alone and follow the aftercare instructions, but I looked today and now I’m unsure what I’m seeing back there. The socket still looks open, with some grayish/white tissue, darker areas, redness around the gum, and that healing look that is honestly not very reassuring when you don’t know what’s normal.

I know it hasn’t even been 3 full days yet, so I’m trying not to panic, but extraction healing is so hard to judge because it can look rough even when it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. I’m not trying to mess with it, and I’ve been doing the no straws, soft foods, gentle rinsing thing, but I keep worrying about dry socket or infection because everyone makes those sound terrifying. After paying around $600 to $2,000 for the extraction, X-rays, meds, and everything else, I really just want this to heal without another surprise appointment.

For anyone who’s had an extraction, did yours still look this red/open around 2 to 3 days after, or did you end up calling the dentist to double-check?

Well, this is one of those parenting moments where I’m staring at my kid’s teeth like I suddenly went to dental school. My daughter is 6 and her adult teeth are starting to come in, but one of the baby teeth still has not come out yet. The adult tooth looks like it’s coming in above or behind it, and because everything is so crowded right there, it’s making it hard for her to wiggle the baby tooth loose at all.

She was seen by the dentist back in May, and they knew about it then, but they just told us she needed to keep working on it and get it out. Now it’s still hanging on, and I’m stuck between not wanting to rush her into having it pulled and also not wanting to wait too long if it’s going to make the adult tooth come in crooked. My husband is worried about it, and of course now I’m thinking about whether this is going to turn into an extraction visit that costs $250 to $900 depending on what they do. I know kids’ teeth can move and adjust, but it’s hard not to second-guess everything when it’s your own child.

The way one tooth can ruin your whole mood is actually impressive. I’ve been looking at this back tooth and wondering if I’m already in root canal territory or if there’s still another option before it gets to that point. The tooth looks really dark and damaged compared to the others, and I’m honestly not sure if this is something a dentist would try to save or if they’d say it’s too far gone.

I know nobody online can officially tell me yes or no, but I’m trying to mentally prepare before I go in because dental visits can turn expensive really fast. I’ve heard root canals, crowns, X-rays, and buildup can easily land somewhere around $1,500 to $3,500, and if they say extraction instead, that’s a whole different situation too. I’m not trying to ignore it, I just hate not knowing if I’m walking into a “we can fix this” appointment or a “why did you wait” appointment.

I never thought I’d be this invested in staring at an extraction hole, but I just had a wisdom tooth removed and now I’m trying to figure out if this looks like it’s clotting the way it should. I can see the dark clot-looking area back where the tooth came out, and I keep checking it even though I know I probably shouldn’t be messing with it too much. There’s some soreness and that weird post-extraction taste/feeling, but I’m mostly just nervous because everyone talks about dry socket like it’s the final boss of dental recovery.

I’m trying to follow the aftercare instructions, no straws, no aggressive rinsing, eating carefully, all of that, but it’s hard not to overthink every little thing when it’s in the back of your mouth and you can’t really see it clearly. Wisdom tooth removal already isn’t cheap, and between the extraction, X-rays, meds, and follow-up, this can turn into a $600 to $2,000 situation pretty fast, so I really don’t want to accidentally mess up the healing part. Okay, I did not expect a temporary crown to become the thing I’m overthinking today, but here we are. I’m in that “waiting for the real crown” stage and I keep looking at this temp one wondering if it’s supposed to look and feel like this. It seems kind of bulky and different from what I imagined, and since it’s on a back tooth it’s hard to really see what’s going on without taking awkward flashlight pictures of my own mouth.

I know temporary crowns aren’t meant to be perfect or pretty, but I’m curious if this is a normal style of temp crown or if it looks like something that needs to be adjusted. I don’t want to be annoying and call the dentist over nothing, but I also don’t want to ignore it if it’s not sitting right or could cause problems before the permanent one goes on. Between the crown appointment, X-rays, build-up, and final crown cost being around $1,200 to $2,800, I’m definitely trying to make sure everything is going the way it should.

Not me shining a flashlight into the back of my mouth and suddenly becoming suspicious of one tiny dark spot. I noticed this on one of my molars and I can’t tell if it’s just staining sitting in the grooves or if it’s actually the start of a cavity. It doesn’t look huge, but it’s in that little pit area where everything seems to collect, and now of course I keep checking it every time I brush.

I’m trying not to panic because I know molars can have stains that look worse than they are, but I also don’t want to ignore it and then find out later that it turned into something deeper. Dental stuff gets expensive so fast too, and I’m already thinking about whether this is a simple “watch it” situation or a filling that could be $200 to $600 depending on what the dentist says.
