From Longwood Gardens: Meet Kat, the Gardener behind the succulent tree in the Silver Garden.

“I was so excited to create this tree! From the start I knew it would take a lot of work. First, our metal fabricators needed to redesign the original tree frame. As this process was underway, I calculated how many plants and other materials I would need, and how long it would take to create it. Altogether, it took me two days to prep the framework, and it took three of us working for a day and a half to plant 2,000 succulents in the framework. Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make our biggest succulent creation to date!” –Kat, Senior Gardener

I hung four of these boxes at Eastside Denton. I installed them with complete Micro Drip Irrigation. This means that watering them is easier and environmentally friendly. The water drips only into the root zone and not onto the ground!
