Today, June 14th, we look up at the Old Glory with a deep sense of pride, history, and hope for the future.

Did you know?
✨ In 1777: The Continental Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of our new nation.
✨ In 1954: The words "under God" were officially added to the Pledge of Allegiance, reaffirming our nation's foundational values.

As Kiwanians, our mission is to serve the children of the world and build a stronger, more united community right here in Denton. When we look at the flag through the eyes of a child, freedom still looks like hope—and it’s our job to keep that hope alive for the next generation.

Drop a 🇺🇸 in the comments if you’re proudly flying your flag today!

At Denton Breakfast Kiwanis, service is at the heart of what we do — but fellowship is part of who we are.

Each month, we gather for what we call First Thirsty. Sometimes we meet at a local restaurant, sometimes we head out for trivia, and sometimes we gather at a member’s home. This month, we met on the second Thursday, but the purpose was the same: to spend time together, enjoy good conversation, and strengthen the friendships that make our club special.

Kiwanis is about serving children and our community, but it is also about building relationships with people who care. We work hard, we serve together, and yes — we have fun together too.

A special thank-you to Paul Juarez, who will be our new Vice President next year, for providing this picture. We may have added a little magic to it.

Come serve with us. Come laugh with us. Come be part of Denton Breakfast Kiwanis.

Mark your calendars, Denton! 🇺🇸

The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club is thrilled to announce that we will once again be participating in the City of Denton Yankee Doodle Parade!

This year is extra special as we join together to celebrate the 250th Birthday of America! 🎂

We’ve created an incredible float featuring some of our nation's history—from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to astronauts and iconic symbols like Rosie the Riveter—all leading up to a massive birthday cake for the red, white, and blue! 🕯️🚀

Kiwanis is all about "Making a difference in our community together," and there is no better day to celebrate that spirit of service and unity than on the 4th of July.

Details:
📅 When: July 4th
⏰ Time: Parade starts at 9:00 AM
📍 Where: Downtown Denton

Bring the whole family for a morning of patriotism, service, and fun. We can't wait to see you there to celebrate 250 years of community and country! ❤️🤍💙

Last night, members of the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club attended the quarterly Robson Ranch Kiwanis Club Trivia Night, and a great time was had by all.

Trivia night is always a good reminder that you can learn a lot about your fellow club members when the questions start flying. Some were easy, and some were definitely challenging.

For example:

What serum was delivered by sled dog in 1925?

Which President had a parrot that cursed so much it had to be removed from his funeral?

Those were just a couple of the questions that kept everyone thinking, laughing, and guessing.

But the best part of the evening was not just the trivia. It was the fellowship, the conversation, and the time spent with friends. That is a big part of what it means to be a Kiwanian: serving our community, building friendships, and enjoying the people we serve alongside.

Thank you to the Robson Ranch Kiwanis Club for hosting another great evening!

Some people might look at it and think it’s a little crazy.

Out in the heat of summer, picking up trash for the Kiwanis Adopt-A-Spot…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Standing side by side with the Denton High School Key Club, planting nearly 3,000 flags for a 9/11 Memorial…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Spending a full Saturday going from store to store making sure kids have coats so they won’t be cold this winter…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Covered in sawdust, sanding, drilling, building beds with my Kiwanis brothers and sisters so no child has to sleep on the floor…
Not crazy—I’m called.

Called to serve.
Called to show up.
Called to do the work that needs to be done—whether anyone notices or not.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40

So if it looks a little different… if it doesn’t make sense to everyone…

That’s alright.

I’m not crazy.
I’m called.

Yesterday was one of those mornings that reminds you exactly why we do what we do.

The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club was honored to award scholarships to 13 outstanding Key Club seniors from high schools across Denton. These young men and women have already demonstrated a profound commitment to leadership, service, and the "service-above-self" mindset that defines our community.

Each scholarship is more than just financial support; it is a strategic investment in the next generation of leaders who have already proven they are willing to step up for their neighbors.

A Community Effort
Success like this doesn't happen in a vacuum. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the "village" that helps these students thrive:

To the Parents: Thank you for your endless support and for raising young adults who value character and community.

To the Faculty Sponsors: We appreciate your tireless work within the schools to provide a platform for these students to lead.

To our Kiwanis Advisors: Thank you for your mentorship and for bridges you build between our club and the next generation.

To Our Recipients
You’ve earned this through years of hard work and genuine dedication. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished so far, and we truly look forward to seeing the impact you will continue to make in the years ahead.

This is how we build a stronger Denton—one servant leader at a time.

Our Denton Breakfast Kiwanis family is saddened to share the passing of longtime member Norm Puckett, who served faithfully in our club from 2009 to 2025.

Many of us will remember Norm as the friendly face who ran our weekly lottery with consistency, humor, and a sense of duty that embodied what it means to be a Kiwanian. Norm stepped away from the club due to health challenges, but his impact and presence remained with us.

We honor his years of service, his dedication to the children of Denton, and the steady reliability he brought to every Wednesday morning meeting. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation:
📅 Saturday, 9:00 AM
📍 Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home on Locust St., Denton

Service:
📅 Saturday, 10:00 AM
📍 Same location

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Norm served with kindness and commitment—and we are grateful for the many years he spent making our club stronger.

May he rest in peace.
