Today we received the letter we’ve been waiting six years for—we’ve officially been approved for home elevation!

My heart is bursting at the seams.

After the flood, FEMA later informed our parish that our home—and many others—should never have been approved for rebuilding. We weren’t alone; nearly 2,000 families were placed on the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program waitlist.

We’ve been waiting six years for this moment.

And next week marks TEN YEARS since the flood changed our lives.

The next chapter begins now. Follow along as we document our home’s elevation and, finally, the peace of mind we’ve been waiting a decade for.

I told my husband in passing, it would be amazing if I had a dispenser for all the extra garlic sauces we have every month. The kids never eat theirs but I love it. Woke up to the white box made and the letters already being printed. It is the little things make a good marriage.
