What is a powder ladder?

We refer to it as one shot per powder charge, shot on a group, at the same point of aim, that covers a wide range of powder charges.

The point is to look at an entire window of performance in one single group that doesn’t require a lot of shooting.

This is a very quick way to see if the rifle likes a particular bullet/powder combo and see roughly where the nodes are at.

this particular test we just showed here is a good example why we don’t just pick a powder charge and Shoot groups. The powder charge we chose happened to be right on the edge of one of a node where it is going out of tune. The rifle did shoot quite consistently with that powder charge and this Bullet/powder combo, but the powder ladder revealed there was a high group and a low group with the optimal charge weight in a different area than we originally loaded.

All we are really trying to evaluate when we go test fire Rifles for our customer is making sure that the rifle is sound and producing consistent groups not randomness.

The rifle will be used for a trophy tag at the end of this year. We will likely shoot 190 A-Tips and N570 if it likes that combination. You will see more videos on this rifle in the future.

3 round, 5 round or 10 round groups?

Well it depends. On new barrels I don’t shoot more than 3 usually because of the likelihood of the barrel having a POI shift early in its life. However after the rifle is worked out I generally always try to shoot at least 5. It’s a better average.

If your checking zero then 10 rounds or two different 5 shot groups is very good to work out where the actual center of the group is.

Regardless this ol’ rifle and old ammo still shoots pretty good! Excited to try some berger bullets in this after I shoot through this ammo. brass never disappoints!

7 Mega is the bees knees for long range hunting!

What is it? It’s a 7-300 WSM improved with a longer neck length. The case was not shortened to achieve this it was lengthened.

Killing animals at long range comes down to a couple of factors.
1. First and foremost, can you hit what you’re aiming at? 2. Does your Bullet have enough remaining velocity for good terminal performance?
3. Did you spot your impact or miss?

Just like everything else, there are trade-offs when it comes to cartridge selection. Heavy bullets going the fastest would be the most ballistically and terminally superior. But the recoil that comes with such cartridges often prohibits the shooter from spotting impacts and knowing what’s going on.

The 7 Mega with 190 class bullets will do 2950-3050fps on a 26” barrel. That has 1000ft/lbs past 1700 yards. That’s more than adequate performance to kill elk or any other at 1200 yards.

Smaller cartridges don’t have the weight, energy or BC to to keep up with this combo. Heavier bullets or bigger cases challenge the shooters ability to shoot and spot hits and misses.

7 mega is the perfect blend between performance and shootability when wanting to kill game past 1000 yards.

10 shot groups oh my… and shot with bipod and rear bag.

I have never fired anything but factory hornady 140eldm out of this rifle but even with factory it has always shot very well.

Today I decided to shoot our standard 6.5 creed load with 130 OTM and brass. I think it’s safe to say that this rifle is a laser.

Also I have always shot this rifle with the Ultra 7 but today decided to try it with the Magnus SRR and on it. Recoil was noticeably, reduced with the Magnus and recoil X combination. However, it was not comfortable to shoot without hearing protection over and over.

now here is the amazing thing. When I swapped back to the ultra seven and checked my zero, it was identical to the magnus. Absolutely zero point of impact shift. This may not be true with every rifle out there, but at least on this set up with a short steel barrel that is quite rigid I can switch between the two without any hesitation. Amazing.

Do you want to level up??

There’s a reason we build rifles the way we do, and it’s not just because they look cool.

We have a preference for parts…
Ruckus, A3a, DBM is a combination I’d trust my life with.

Also this month these rifles are chambered in our 3 most common cartridges chambered at SCR.

These are rifles built on experience not popularity.

I normally do not sell barrel blanks separately to the public, but I currently have a limited amount of extra in-stock Benchmark carbon barrels available in common contours, twists, and lengths.

Benchmark barrels are not always easy to find in stock, especially in common precision rifle configurations, and once this inventory is gone I do not intend on continuing this program moving forward.

Before opening these up more broadly, I wanted to offer them to existing SCR customers first.

If you already own an SCR rifle and want to secure a backup or replacement barrel for the future, I’m offering $200 off a second in-stock barrel while this inventory lasts.

For new customers starting a rifle build, the same applies. Purchase your rifle build and first barrel as normal, then add a second in-stock barrel at the discounted price for a future replacement barrel, second cartridge setup, or backup barrel.

I’m also fine with selling the barrel blank by itself if someone wants to purchase one or two barrels and have another gunsmith chamber them.

This only applies to the currently available inventory I already have on hand. Once these barrels are gone, the offer ends.

The second photo contains the current inventory list with:
- caliber
- twist
- contour
- barrel length
- quantity available

First come, first serve.

It’s about time I had my own 22 Creed that I keep.

Went out to shoot the 7 Max Cartridge Guide test and brought this along. Here’s 3 back to back 3 shot groups. I’d say it’s going to be a laser.

One hole guns never get old!

Ruckus tuned and timed with fixed 75* bolt
18” carbon Mtu lite
LRH stock
ultra 7 suppressor
suppressor cover
Hunter DBM and mag and UL ringstech diamond
nx8 4-32
brass
80.5 fullbore
H4350

For heavier milling work there are definitely better toolholding options.

But for stock inletting the cutting loads are relatively light, tool changes are constant, and the TIR requirements are nowhere near as critical as chambering or indicating a barrel. (Though this chuck gives extremely good runout capability.)

This ultra precision chuck has worked very well for this application and makes tool changes much faster. This is a very high quality chuck.

Tooling choices should match the operation being performed. This one does that for me.
