156 of 200. That is how many laps Layne Riggs led Friday night at Martinsville before his own Front Row teammate Chandler Smith took the lead on a restart with 12 to go and beat Ben Rhodes by 0.574.

Riggs swept both stages. A win puts him one point ahead of Kaden Honeycutt for the Truck championship. Instead he is 20 back with one race left at Homestead.

Serious question for Truck fans. Was that a teammate racing him clean, or a team that should have told the 38 to hold station. One answer in the replies.

NASCAR Cup Series: Denny Hamlin led 292 of the 400 laps at Martinsville in March and still lost the race.

He started on the pole and ran an average position of 1.34 all afternoon. The next most laps led by anyone that day was eighty four. Chase Elliott led those eighty four laps and took the trophy. Hamlin owns the best average finish in Cup this season at 9.09. 292 of the 313 laps he has led on short tracks in 2026 came at this one track.

Martinsville owes him one, or Elliott beats him again. Comment HAMLIN or ELLIOTT.

Denny Hamlin won four races this year, led the regular season standings by 25 points, and leads the Cup Series in top fives with 16. He sits 73 points behind Kyle Larson with two races left.

This week the people who cover the sport told fans to stop complaining about it. Danielle Trotta posted that she does not want to hear any griping because this is what everyone said they wanted. Jeff Gluck told fans to embrace it. Then Hamlin said it himself: if Larson closes it out, he deserved it through the last 10 races.

Serious question for Hamlin fans. Is Hamlin right that the last 10 races are the only ones that count, or is the man who was best for 36 weeks the real champion. Pick one.

Denny Hamlin conceded the championship on his own podcast Thursday.

On Actions Detrimental he ran the math out loud. "If you win the race, it's 55 points. You gotta get to 75. You gotta win the race. You gotta get... It's highly unlikely." And then the line that follows him all weekend: "We're all racing for second."

This is a driver with four wins in 2026 and the regular season championship, who has not won since Pocono in June, sitting 73 points behind Kyle Larson with two races to go.

We are still taking him Sunday at Martinsville, where he has six Cup wins and no active driver has more.

Serious question for Hamlin fans. Is that honesty from a guy who can do math, or did he just quit on the season in public. Tell us which.
