Never too early to start planning our outside Christmas displays. Made a few different lighted Stars to hang in the trees with our other big lighted ornaments I made a few years back. Very pleased with how these turned out and can’t wait to hang them!

A few months back I got some ambrosia maple from my buddy Sam at Gill CC Woodworks. Interesting looking wood, really really heavy, and very rough from being rough sawn and dried, so I jointed up an edge and face and started running it through my planer….

Holy Crap Sam! Is this stuff made out of granite? This is some of the absolute hardest wood I have ever milled! Had to change my planer blades out halfway through… but WOWSERS! This is some beautiful wood!

Seems the DeskProto people have been on vacation for a week or so, leaving me waiting to purchase V8.0 software until yesterday from SainSmart so i can get the Genmitsu 4040 Pro fired up and going. Was really keen to get the full version as I was over playing with the limitations of the FREE trial version. Got the registration key emailed to me this morning and proceeded to start messing around with it.

So much more useful and with straightforward functionality. Had it loaded in a few minutes and started working up a few of my own designs during my lunch break, excited to get home and see how things would work out.

Gotta say, I could not be more pleased with the results.

Latest fun little project completed here and there after work. (Stupid work… getting in the way of all my fun woodworking projects…) experimenting with deep routing using router templates on the router table.

A nice serving tray made of Black walnut, ash, cherry, and maybe a little oak in the mix.

Got a new Toy in the shop this week… a Genmitsu 4040 Pro by SainSmart Technology, Inc. CNC Router!

Upgraded the stock spindle to a 1 1/2 hp Makita Trim router with the SainSmart Genmitsu IMatic relay interface, and am using Adobe Illustrator, DeskProto and the UGS G-code sender, and so far I could not be more thrilled with the results!

Make a vector image, write the code with DeskProto, and run UGS, and watch your images come to life! Crazy cool!!!

Well… to say the NEW spiral cutter head with carbide inserts from Findbuytool in the 20+ year old Grizzly Industrial, Inc. G1182Z jointer is a “Game Changer” is a SERIOUS understatement.

Changing the head was a breeze. And once I had my outfeed table adjusted, it was game on! The finish is incredible! And quiet? Holy moly! My sawdust collector is louder!

This has me rethinking keeping my solid knife planer…

The old Grizzly is good for another 20 year!
