Scout/Scouticus/Scouty Scout/Baby (previously known as Duke before he chose us) showed up one day over 10 years ago to guard the chicken coop. We found his previous owner and she didn’t want him anymore because he was too much trouble. He got into mischief, he was trouble and we loved him. If you’ve ever been on our property, you’ve been warned about Scout. He wasn’t just a fierce livestock guard dog, he loved his family and protected us. He patrolled at night and slept all day. In the evenings, he would race around Allison and flop in front of her for rubs and praise. Allison is his human and they shared an amazing bond. He survived two venemous snake bites, learned to tolerate occasional baths and kept other dogs and coyotes away from our herd. His big deep bark will be missed every night, but especially tonight. One of the older Guinea hens also died today, so they’re buried together. That's what he came to do that day 10+ years ago. He came to guard the chickens. And so he did.
Well done Scout. 🐾 🐾
End of watch.
