Second grade students from Community School of Davidson stopped in for a chat during their walking trip around downtown.
🌎 Kat shared with them a little bit about our work, that our role is to introduce new books into the world.
🪞We believe that books are windows and mirrors; windows into other people’s lives, building empathy, and mirrors of ourselves, affirming each of us.
📚 We hope that people find themselves on the shelves and also find people and places they might not encounter in their own lives.
📍She also shared a little history. Main Street Books is in the oldest building on Main St. As far back as 1901, it was the Brown General Store. The shelves along our walls and the wood floors are original to the general store. In the winter, folks used to stop in to catch up on the gossip, and they’d stand around the wood stove to warm up. You can still see the darkened floor boards where the stove used to be.
