DID YOU KNOW?

We recently spoke with local Code Enforcement Officer Dwight Pilton regarding Maine shoreland zoning and the use of pressure-treated lumber for docks and waterfront projects.

Many people remember when pressure-treated lumber was discouraged or prohibited around lakes and ponds because older treatment methods contained arsenic and other chemicals that raised environmental concerns.

According to current guidance, newer pressure-treated lumber products use different treatment processes, and pressure-treated lumber approved for use near water is now generally allowed in many waterfront applications, subject to local and state regulations.

As always, every project is different, and property owners should check with their local Code Enforcement Officer before starting construction.

We’re investing in advertising throughout the region and intentionally chose a weekend with very little competition from other local events to help bring as many shoppers as possible to town.

If you’ve been meaning to clean out the garage, attic, basement, shed, or spare room, now is the time. Start setting those items aside and make plans to join us.

One favor: If you sign up, please commit to coming. We work hard to promote these events and bring traffic into town for everyone.

🚨 BY POPULAR DEMAND… WE’RE ADDING A THIRD COMMUNITY YARD SALE! 🚨

For years, Danforth Hardware has hosted two community yard sales each year—one in June and one at the end of August. After hearing from several vendors who asked for another opportunity, we’ve decided to add a special mid-summer event!

📅 Saturday, July 25
🕗 Set up and ready to sell by 8:00 AM - no late arrivals
🕑 Event runs until 2:00 PM (we usually begin wrapping up around 1:30 PM)

As always, vendor spaces are FREE. No registration fee. No setup fee. Just let us know you’ll be there and bring your items and be ready to sell!

A few important reminders:
✅ Please plan to stay for the entire event. If foot traffic dies down we usually make a call by 1:15 or 1:30 to wrap it up. 
✅ Please do not commit to a space and then cancel the night before unless it’s an emergency.

These yard sales have become very successful because vendors show up, stay the day, and we work hard and spend marketing dollars to bring a lot of traffic into town. Many vendors have done extremely well at past events, and we’re looking forward to another great turnout.

Whether you’re cleaning out the garage, downsizing, or looking to make some extra cash, now is the time!
