On International Women’s Day, I’m taking a moment to reflect on what it means to build something as a woman.

Unrefined Essentials didn’t come from a big beauty lab or a corporate boardroom. It started with curiosity, research, late nights, and a commitment to creating products that truly care for your skin.

Sometimes when people tell me their skin suddenly feels sensitive, tight, or irritated, the first thing I think about is their skin barrier.

Your skin barrier is basically your skin’s protective layer. Its job is to keep moisture in and irritation out.

When that layer gets a little off balance, you might start noticing things like products stinging when you apply them, skin still feeling dry even after moisturizing, or random redness that wasn’t there before. That’s usually your skin asking for more support and less stripping.

Humectants like glycerin and sodium PCA pull water into the skin and help it stay there. That’s how skin maintains softness and balance throughout the day, not just right after application.

A lot of people expect soap to make their skin soft and I get why. BUT… that’s actually not what soap is meant to do.

Soap’s main job is to clean.

That soft feeling people look for usually comes from fillers or residue left behind, not from real skin support.

At Unrefined Essentials, our bar soaps are made to cleanse without leaving your skin feeling stripped. We keep glycerin in our bars and skip harsh detergents so your skin feels clean, balanced, and comfortable after washing.
