Here's a fact for you: did you know that if you counted all the Army, Navy, and British variants of the B-24 design, including experimental ones, you would have nearly 60 different models?!
But it all started here: The B-24A. Diamond Lil was the 14th Liberator ever built. She started down the line as a B-24A bound for France, but France fell before she was completed, so she was finished as an LB-30 for the British. On her way to be delivered to Britain, she suffered a hard landing in Canada and had to return to the factory in San Diego. There, she was converted to a transport, though she was never in the full C-87 Liberator Express configuration. It was this conversion that kept her in the states and ultimately allowed us to fly her today.
You start out with one plan, and life takes you in a different direction. But somehow you end up exactly where you need to be. ❤️
