Weekly Literary Moment! 📚💥
TWD Toilet Sessions

Our scale is intimate. It’s the kind of experience we are pleased to offer in our space, whether a writer’s talk or a music show, or just the everyday cozy ambiance. So, what’s more intimate than the toilet? Some visiting artists share a little bit of themselves from the ultimate intimate premises of the shop.

Kendra Allen is a Dallas born-and-raised writer who was the featured poet in the May edition of Inner Moonlight, in our backyard. She’s the author of the memoir Fruit Punch, the poetry collection The Collection Plate, and the essay collection When You Learn the Alphabet, which won the 2018 Iowa Prize for Literary Nonfiction. She received an M.F.A. from the University of Alabama. Some of her other works can be found on, or in, The Paris Review, Oxford American, The Rumpus, High Times, and more.

Inner Moonlight is the monthly poetry series at the shop, curated by poet Logen Cure, the second Wednesday of every month.

Next Sunday, May 31st!
COOK BOOK CLUB

Instead of reading a book and gather with others to share your experiences and thoughts, at the Cook Book Club you pick a recipe from the chosen book, you go into your kitchen, and join others with a dish for a Sunday supper!

The Cook Book Club gathers the last Sunday of every month, and May’s cook book is Fusão: Untraditional Recipes Inspired By Brazil, by Ixta Belfrage.

Fusão means fusion in Portuguese and reflects bestselling author Ixta Belfrage’s multicultural heritage, born to a Brazilian mother and an English father. It also describes Brazilian cuisine: a vibrant fusion of indigenous, Portuguese and West African influences that incorporates inspiration from diverse immigrant populations.

Is A River Alive?
Robert Macfarlane

Katie Fisher is a visual artist and scholar whose work focuses on the environmental humanities and the deep connections between humans and the more-than-human world. A close friend and collaborator of The Wild Detectives, last year she joined Spanish writer Gabi Martínez for the presentation of his book The Last House Before the Sea, and during Hay Festival Forum Dallas 2024 she led a conversation with Canadian writer and journalist John Vaillant. She has also participated in the Inner Moonlight poetry series and, last Thursday, joined the D_CLAIM open mic session.

“Macfarlane’s book is timely. Rivers are in crisis worldwide. They have been dammed, poisoned, reduced to servitude, erased from the map...Many Indigenous communities believe that rivers are conscious, with souls, intelligence, even memory. Macfarlane is less a philosopher wrestling with notions of sentience and pan-psychism than he is a nature writer, the author of memorable books about mountains, landscape and underworlds, as well as a celebrant of words (acorn, bluebell, kingfisher, otter, etc) he fears children no longer know.”
Blake Morrison, The Guardian
