The year was 1999 when I got a phone call letting me know that Monica was having auditions in Atlanta for a background vocalist. I could NOT afford a plane ticket but Freddie Moffet’s cousin Gladys worked for United Airlines and gave me a buddy pass. 💫

Off to Atlanta I go! I pulled out a dress I bought from a beauty supply store and some shoes from Payless! I sang Blessed Assurance in that audition! 🤣

Monica’s song Angel of Mine was my faaaaaaavorite song of hers at the time. My momma thought it was a gospel song. I played that song and sang it over and over at home not knowing that I’d one day be a background singer for her. An artist that was so inspiring and influential to me and sooooooo many young girls.
