Green Roost A boutique with a conscience. Since 2009. Our mission was a simple one: providing Culpeper with a unique gift shop, that specializes in kind-to-the-earth gifts.

Green Roost, located at 141 East Davis Street in the heart of Historic Downtown Culpeper, is more than just a gift shop. We began as the brainchild of local entrepreneur Sharon Clark, and when we started this little adventure, we had no idea quite how big we would get. We aimed to prove to the community that you could make socially-conscious choices in your gift buying, and not sacrifice style or

quality. Since our first location, which was just under 250 square-feet, to our new home, measuring in around ten times that size, we’ve grown in more ways than one. Green Roost is now owned and operated by Sharon’s niece, Kelsey Carlson. With Kelsey at the helm, we outgrew our little “nest” and found our place in the “roost”, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our small gift shop has added clothing, bedding and furniture, and we expand our product lines every day. The goods we sell are handpicked and carefully thought out with our customers in mind. We aim to keep items unique, on-trend, and most importantly, earth-friendly. We hope you’ll stop by soon to see what’s new and say hi. A little love letter to small businesses today.

We found out this week that two of our small business neighbors are closing their doors, and it’s been sitting heavy with me.

Running a small business has never been easy. Right now, it feels especially hard. Costs are higher. Customers are more cautious. And behind the cute storefronts and pretty Instagram feeds are real people constantly doing the math, getting creative, pivoting, worrying, hoping…and trying like hell to make it work.

So this isn’t just about Green Roost.

Love on your small businesses. Shop when you can. Share their posts. Tell your friends about them. Leave the review. Walk through the door. Send the encouraging message.

Because I promise you…we notice when you show up.

And it matters more than you probably know. ❤️

Nobody prepares you for this part of owning a store.

Somewhere between hundreds of deliveries and years of “See you tomorrow!” your UPS driver goes from delivery guy to honorary coworker.

Now if one of us isn’t here, the first question is,
“Where’s Chris today?”

Small-town retail is funny like that. ❤️

One of them calmly folds sweaters…the other starts pulling racks onto Davis Street and saying things like, “Let’s mark it down.”
