HOW IT ALL STARTED AT MODERN MUSIC CENTER
Established 1946, 76 years ago the late Jay Miller started recording and producing local musicians on his own label which led to selling records in what was Miller & Sons Electrical Co. Eventually becoming Modern Music Center. MMC became the first dealer in the state with some of the most prominent names in the business such as: Fender, Vox, Peavey and Ta
ye, just to name a few. MMC is the oldest Mom & Pop retail store in downtown Crowley. Being in business as long as we have, we’ve seen the changes made in the music industry. Way back when, the only good instruments were American made. The foreign guitars were bad to terrible, but now their guitars are just as good or in some cases better with savings up to 75% than American made guitars. I’m not advocating foreign products, but many American companies are using these manufacturers for their own products. With other musical products, it’s pretty much the same. So if you want that old time style of hospitality shopping where service is a must, come shop with MMC where you can find not only guitars, but amps, drums, percussion & all the accessories that goes with these items. We also have ukuleles, accordions and brass & woodwind instruments along with their accessories. Not to mention PA systems, outboard gear, DJ systems & we still have CD’s, Vinyl LP’s & 45’s. We also rent most of the items we sale as well. Being in business as long as we have, it’s no surprise that we have an extensive array of vintage instruments and inventory. In the back of the store is where the oldest continuing operating recording studio in the state of Louisiana. If you are ever in our area, please stop by, come shop or just visit one of the oldest music stores and recording studios in our fine state. Note: there is a museum of the recording studio in what is now City Hall on the same block as MMC which was in operation from the early 60’ to 1984.
