My first ever Tiger Trout -- I have always wanted to catch one of these fish. They are a bit rare and only found in certain streams - the ones that hold natural reproducing brown trout and brook trout. A male brook trout and a female brown trout have to spawn to create a tiger trout.

This is my favorite time of the year for trout fishing. There are good numbers of fish being caught, making the dry fly fishing a lot of fun. Baetis Mayflies, Midges, Caddis and Craneflies are all hatching. My top surface flies this spring have been Blue-Winged Olive flag duns, Morgans midges and X Caddis. Flashback Hares Ears, Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns and leach patterns are working well between hatches.

Trout fishing was good this past weekend and should keep getting better with the warmer spring weather. Many fish were caught subsurface on Hares Ears, Copper Johns and leech patterns. There also was a light Blue-Winged Olive hatch around noon, bringing some fish to surface. 'Had some success with Snow Shoe Emergers and Flag Duns. This is a great time of year to get on the trout streams.

The cooler weather has trout fishing picking up again. Fishing has been pretty good, with some nice sized browns and some very colorful brook trout, the native fish of the driftless area. Beetle patterns, scuds and zebra midges in red have been my top producing flies. The trout season will be open into October now with the new regulations. This is a great time of year to be on the water.

Fishing has been off and on the past month with the heavy rain and the hot temps. Thankfully we have been having success when the weather permits. Stream smallmouth fishing will be our focus over the next month or so. Pound for pound they are the hardest fighting fish out there, and a ton of fun to catch.

Trout fishing has been summer-like lately, with fishing being best early and later in the the day. Hatches have been good towards evening with caddis, craneflies, sulphurs and tiny olives. Top flies have been pheasant tails and zebra midges, fished as droppers 18 to 20 inches below a caddis ant or beetle. Cole was able to get out with me today for a while and caught some nice fish. We are both excited to start fishing smallmouth bass; That should start picking up soon also.

I had a nice time guiding Gram and his son Harry this past Saturday. The weather was not the greatest with the wind and cold, but the trout didn't care. Gram and Harry both caught some nice fish. Harry did a great job, was patient and showed a lot of enthusiasm. I'm looking forward to another day on the stream with these guys this summer!

The caddis hatches are in full swing along with blue winged olives, midges and a few crane flies. This time of the year, its hard for me to think of anything besides a nice trout hammering a dry fly. It's not uncommon to catch over 30 fish in a day this time of the year; Friday was one of those days. Top flies were red zebra midges, copper hares ears, peacock and partridge soft hackles, bwo flag duns and olive x caddis. Lots of different patterns are producing right now. Moving your fly is also important now and can help you catch more fish.

Fishing this week was pretty good, despite the wind and sun. I took my friend Austin. It was his first time fly fishing for trout. Despite the tough conditions, Austin did a great job for his first time. He managed 5 trout and made some good casts into some tough spots. I was hoping to see caddis, but didn't. We had some midges hatching in the morning and a good olive hatch in the afternoon. Our top producing flies were flash back hares ear nymphs, Morgans midges and olive flag duns. Hopefully next week we will see some good caddis hatches.

Fishing has been excellent, with a lot of fish caught on dries. I encountered my first olive hatch of the season. Size 18 sparkle duns and olive parachutes worked well. Dry fly fishing is picking up as the weather warms. Can't wait for the caddis hatches; They are just around the corner. Nymph fishing has been productive with hares ears, scuds, and pheasant tail nymphs.
