Meet our team- Engineer Veronica Jarolimek.
A first-generation American born in Pittsburgh to Czech parents, Veronica grew up speaking Czech at home while building her life in the United States. Though she was born in Pennsylvania, Colorado is where her heart has always belonged. Raised in Littleton, she built an early foundation of discipline and determination through synchronized swimming, competing in two Junior Olympics before trading the pool for the mountains she loves.
Veronica earned her degree in Ski Resort Management with an emphasis in Outdoor Education from Western State College, and what began as a college experience quickly became a lifelong home in Crested Butte. From managing Flatiron Sports ski shop to working as a kayaking instructor at Three Rivers, she embraced the mountain lifestyle fully—even claiming victory at the 2000 Crested Butte Snowboard Extremes.
In 2003, Veronica began volunteering with CBFPD, discovering a new passion for service. She transitioned into a paid role in 2009 and has since served in numerous capacities, including administrative assistant, fire inspections, public education, Training Lieutenant, and Volunteer Coordinator. Today, she has returned to her roots in operations as an EMT/Engineer and is currently working toward her Driver Operator Pumper Certification.
Her commitment and leadership have earned her numerous honors, including:
Firefighter of the Year (2006)
District Person of the Year (2009 & 2012)
Larry Ketelhut Colorado Fire Instructor of the Year (2021)
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Veronica is a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband, Matt Halvorson of the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department, have built a life grounded in service, adventure, and community while raising their two sons in the mountains they call home.
Veronica’s journey reflects dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving Crested Butte. We are grateful for her leadership, passion, and the heart she brings to our department every day.
