It’s a Gemini new moon and I’ve been reflecting on myself and Witch Baby a lot lately. This is our 12th summer as a company and truly the end of a cycle as we approach our 13th year this October. This Gemini new moon feels like a new beginning so I wanted to re-introduce myself as I don’t often show myself a lot here, but my friends and family think I should change that. When I started this company I didn’t want you to see me, I wanted you to see yourself and I think I’ve accomplished that over time as we’ve built this magical community of self love and empowerment. When I first started this company ai didn’t exist, we still used tumblr, videos weren’t on Instagram yet, and the mystery of this seemingly anonymous witchy brand was part of the allure. I could not have imagined the way things would change, but now on the face of ai illusion, anti witchcraft rhetoric, and late stage capitalism crushing small business; posting my face feels radical. So this is me. My name is Chelsea. I started this company nearly 13 years ago. I physically type out all of my newsletters without the help of ai. I make quarterly zines about the moon without ai. I write all of my copy without ai. Our products are made by real people with real lives. I am a real person making real things for real people. This “brand” is built from my real life experiences - scents from places a computer will never see. To be a small business owner is to be part of the community in a way I never imagined and it feels more and more radical every day. Thank you to everyone who took the time to shop with us this weekend and spend your hard earned money on our launch. I value the connection that Witch Baby brings more and more each day as we chart further and further into the unknown territory of the future. I am happy to be here with you, together 💜
