As in many instances…the media’s efforts to dramatize situations and the willingness of uninformed members of the community to jump on board without seeking truth creates a lot of misinformation. This has been a repetitive theme over the last few years and has once again proven to be true this 4th of July season.
So here are some FACTS
1. Yes you can pop fireworks…and not just smoke ball and sparklers. Your most popular items such as multi-shot bases/cakes, artillery shells and canisters, fountains and more are 100% legal to sell and pop in most county’s including including Taylor, Midland, Ector, Crane and many more. (Check your specific counties regulations)
2. There are many years that we are dry and regulations are put into place. Most of the time when they refer to regulations on aerial fireworks they are referring to bottle rockets and rockets with fins as they are this year (see the commissioners court document below)
3. Regarding the drama behind fireworks being illegal in the city and all the fines they are going to be issuing this year if you pop fireworks…NEWS FLASH, fireworks are always illegal in the city limits or on property you do not have permission to be popping them on…and there are always fines for illegal use…this is nothing new…just another opportunity to dramatize a situation.
4. Safety should be used at all times…not just during a drought season. It is always encouraged to use common sense and safety precautions when dealing with fireworks.
Most of these fireworks stands are run by school groups, church groups, sports teams and other groups as fundraisers. By spreading misinformation you are negatively effecting the fundraising efforts of your local kids and groups. If you are one of these who have been publicly spreading misinformation then you owe it to the groups to publicly correct yourself.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day weekend and as we celebrate may we always be mindful that our country was not always independent and free and be grateful for those who have come before us and those who continue to fight for the freedoms we so easily take for granted. Take this opportunity to thank a veteran!
🇺🇸 GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸
