Hey, let’s have a quick talk about hantavirus… I became aware of hantavirus around 15 years ago. I will usually vacuum out the interior of an upright before I do anything else, hantavirus is one of the reasons I do that. Mice love pianos and they can set up a thriving little community inside. While it’s possible to contract hantavirus from your piano, it’s not very likely. It’s a bigger issue in the southwestern states. No matter, I will clean the interior of your piano and advise you about a deep cleaning underneath the keys (I do charge extra for that because I have to take a lot of stuff apart) If you are worried about or have a rodent infestation in your piano, give me a shout. I’ll take the proper steps to remove the ‘special presents’ a rodent leaves behind. Even if they aren’t carrying disease they’re gross…

I use diagnostic tools on your piano before I ever turn a pin. Why? Because how can you get to where you want to go, when you don’t know where you are? I just love showing clients their before and after shots. I could tune your piano by ear, but this produces a more consistent end result. Here are two examples. The curved line is the best sounding stretch for your instrument the little blue dots are the pitches of every note. The dots are lined up with the keyboard graphic below.

Just a reminder, I stand behind all the work I do. Whether that is a tuning or repair I will back that up and make it right. When I get a text saying “You worked on my piano and now it’s doing something strange.” The first thought in my head is “Did I leave a tool in there?” But I am happy to come by and check it out. I work on pianos because I like working on pianos, so if I drive an hour to your house to fix a sticky key I don’t mind. Because everyday I get to work on a piano is a good day.

Hey the below freezing spell we had a few weeks ago really did a number on a lot of pianos. The reason was that it takes a couple of weeks for the humidity change to hit instruments. But lower humidity dries out the sound board and bridges causing them to go flat. It’s especially bad for church and stage pianos. If you have a guy you probably want to call them soon. If you don’t have a guy click on the name above and get yourself a guy.

Winter! Don’t ya just love it?!?! January 2026 started with temperatures above average and then dropped to below freezing for two solid weeks. This can do a number on your piano’s tuning. It’s a good idea to schedule a piano service if it’s been more than a year since the last tuning. Tickled Ivories first time service is $185. That includes an interior cleaning or sound board dusting. I will sample each note on your instrument for a precision A440 tuning with custom tuning curve. This is really good for small pianos and spinets. I also do small incidental repairs like sticking keys or bouncing hammers.
