Sam Diddee - MegaMouton Rothschild Tasting 🤯
My friend Gary Faust Gary Faust, French buyer at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, California organized a Mouton Rothschild tasting which I definitely wasn’t going to miss! The tasting was sold out and I was thankful to wine bar manager Gabe for reserving spots at the bar for my friends and I. He also gathered the capsules of the bottles that were opened for a cool picture for my post! 👍🏼
The amazing lineup had 8 wines that included not one, not two, but three vintages of Mouton Rothschild’s Grand Vin! 🤯
1. Barons de Rothschild Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs - $80.99
2. 2019 Chateau Clerc Milon - $124.99
3. 2012 Chateau d’Armailhac - $99.95
4. 2019 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild - $289.99
5. 2016 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild - $299.99
6. 2020 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - $749.99
7. 2017 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - $599.99
8. 2015 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - $649.95
All the wines in the lineup were fantastic, but for me the “Wine Of The Night” was the 2020 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. 🏆 Absolutely delicious! 😋 Unfortunately it was also the most expensive wine in the lineup! 😫 I held the bottle very carefully for the picture because “You break it, you bought it” would definitely break the bank in this case! 😱
It appreciated the opportunity to do a vertical tasting of the 2015, 2017 and 2020 vintages of the Mouton Rothschild Grand Vin. It appealed to the wine nerd in me by highlighting how the different growing conditions in each of those years yielded different results, given that the vineyards and winemaker were a constant. 🤓
In several other Bordeaux tastings I have gravitated towards the 2016 and 2019 vintages and I found that to be the case in this tasting too. Thankfully the wines from those vintages in this tasting were relatively cheaper than the 2020 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. 😅
A big THANK YOU to Gary for arranging excellent tastings and to Gabe Gabriel Barakat and Parker Parker_Horrocks for being excellent hosts as usual! 🙏🏼 Santé!🍷
