Jun “Jonio” Takahashi () and Nigo ( , ) have been friends since their days at Bunka Fashion College in the late 1980s. together, they co-founded NOWHERE in Tokyo’s Ura-Harajuku district in 1993, helping shape the foundations of modern Japanese streetwear.

more than three decades later, that relationship has come full circle, with Nigo’s Human Made set to acquire Jonio’s Undercover. in hindsight, the recent Undercover × Nike collaboration featuring Nigo feels almost like a celebration of their shared legacy—two longtime friends and collaborators reunited before the next chapter begins.

from NOWHERE to now, few partnerships have had a greater impact on Japanese fashion.

here are some moments the pair shared together through their collaborations, notably those under “Last O**y 2.”

editor notes:
what are your thoughts on the acquisition?

my personal journey into the world of Japanese streetwear began with learning about Undercover and *older* BAPE when I first visited the store in LA. much of my initial interest into designer clothing started with the works of both Jonio and Nigo. i’m curious to see how things for the Undercover brand will change in the following seasons with this acquisition.

one of my first ever “pieces” was a aw99 “Ambialence” bomber jacket from UC

lu'u dan ss26 - "no man's land"

designed by Hung La, whose work consistently explores identity through the lens of displacement, masculinity, and survival.

this collection marks the third chapter in an ongoing narrative.

from "mayhem" — chaotic, reactive.
to "you don’t belong here" — direct, confrontational.

those seasons were about being pushed to the edge.
about visibility through resistance.

“no man’s land” shifts the tone ane focuses on what comes after that moment—
when survival is no longer the only objective,
but belonging still isn’t guaranteed.

you see it in the garments.
washed and bleached denim, where black is stripped into pale tones.
industrial materials—tarps, waders, protective fabrics—repurposed into something wearable.

these aren’t stylistic choices.
they reference labor, migration, and adaptation.

the silhouettes follow the same logic.
broad, protective shapes. compressed waists. layered outerwear.

less about confrontation,
more about control.

this collection doesn’t try to resolve identity.
it documents the process of building it—without permission, and without a clear endpoint.

not arrival.
but no longer survival either.

this is the most slept on Vietnamese brand -

Lu’u Dan is a London-based fashion label founded by designer Hung La. the brand draws from La’s personal history as a Vietnamese immigrant and his background at houses like Balenciaga and Céline. Lu’u Dan creates collections that feel both intimate and confrontational. garments often carry a sense of tension—refined but worn, precise yet emotionally charged—exploring what it means to exist between cultures rather than within a single one.
